Heed the warnings about the southern entrance

We didn't and ended up driving an extra hour to get to the campground.

Our only complaint is the site was not level. When we were able to get the camper level the tongue was 40" high. We had to borrow 6 8X8 blocks from the Rangers in order to stabilize the front

Other than that, we enjoyed the park because it is not a resort park and it was quite and peaceful after we got the rig set up.

One of my first State Parks

This is the first State Park I visited in the mid sixties. Great place for a family reunion. There is a small swimming area that is kid friendly, Canoes and kayaks are available. Fishing is allowed with license

There are numerous cabins and lodges. Covered pavilions can be rented for large gatherings as well as a meeting hall. The park also offers a large group camp site with a dining hall and group cabins.

Not all the camper sites have electrical hook-ups, some back-in sites and pull through site available.

This is not a resort park, so only those folks who truly enjoy peace and quite go there.

The park abuts Big South Fork NRP, so there are plenty of trails to hike.

The park is an accredited International Dark Sky Park, so  bring your telescopes.

BE AWARE, there are black bears in the area as well as poisonous snakes (rattlesnakes and copperheads).

Great primitive camping area

If you are looking for an out-of-the-main-drag area to go camping, try this place. We have been camping there for years. The District Scouting units use this area for camping. There is two portions to the area. The south portion has a covered pavilion.

There is no water, so bring plenty. There is a spring, however you have to know where it is.  Plenty of firewood available.

The closest store is about 5 miles away near Tennessee Ridge.

There are marked trails throughout the area.

Please be aware that hunting is allowed in this area, so deer and turkey seasons could present issues for those who are looking for peace and quite.

We have used this area in all seasons.
