Anytime I can find a new spot, i get excited. The last time i attempted to camp here the gate was closed, and because we live so far away from here, its always risky. Im glad to report that i can finally check this site off of my bucket list, and it did not disappoint. Nobody was able to sleep due to windy conditions, but the view from our campsite made it all worth while.
I'm fortunate to be able camp at Lake McClure often because it is not too far from where i live. The campsites were very clean, bathrooms were very clean and well maintained and the cost to camp here at $25 per night is reasonable. We have brought our watercraft here and the people boating around us have always been courteous and responsible. The only drawback on this particular trip was the dog left tied up and unattended, at one of the campsites closer to us, would bark at every person who walked, drove, or rode by their campsite. And it might not have been a big deal if they werent so close to the bathroom, but after the first few hours of barking, i almost wanted to ask for a different site. Other than that, we had a great time. The rangers were very knowledgeable and outgoing. Special thanks to Mr. Null, the ranger we met the following day, who was very hospitable while we were checking out horseshoe bend and bagby.
