Good for kids

There is a lot for a family to do at Morrow Mountain including fishing and a swimming pool. My main thing is usually hiking. I stayed at the family campground once to get an early start on hiking. Saw several deer while I was there. The family campground is separated from the road by some trees but there is still noise from cars, like in any family campground I suppose.

I hiked past the primitive campground which is fine, only 2 miles in. But there is no water so make sure you take enough for the night.

Good base for hiking

I have hiked almost all the trails at Pilot Mountain, except for the corridor. The That's my main reason for going there. The The perimeter trails are great, not too crowded. The ones closer into Pilot Mountain itself get way too crowded. For me the campground is a little too open and close packed. There's not much to keep you from your neighbors and it's too close to a road. But it's a nice place for families if you want to take your kids hiking and also have them close to a restroom.

Great access to Mt. Rogers

This was our base for accessing Mt. Rogers (ponies!!) via the Mt. Rogers trail which runs through the camp ground. The bathrooms were decent and there was plenty of parking. Rates were very reasonable. It was pretty quiet for June, not overcrowded.
