Giant Redwoods & Fishing

It's a nice place. Two ponds, each with a campground, and typically stocked with rainbow trout.

Wood at entrance to upper near the host. The museum is non existent and was about to collapse. When I was a kid it had cool stuff from the logging days of the area.

Flush toilets, fish cleaning station, and water. Dusty! There is an ADA site at the upper pond next to the host.

Bears. They come around sun down and throughout the night. Don't be that idiot that spot lights them and chases them into others camp sites.

Good location

The creek was running which made it nice to cool down. Not the best kept grounds I'd say, overgrown weeds, and shrubs. Half the camp ground is closed. No showers are available as they used to be and toilets are now vault toilets only, but they were clean (fairly new). The camp host was a nice gentleman, he cruises the grounds often. Lake was pretty full so you're not far from water. Fish cleaning station was nearby. Dump station was not open either. The place simply needs some love. Most sites lack shade, though the few that do offer shade get you close to the road and road noise can be loud. I've camped this place through the years, it's what you would expect for the area. There is water but some faucets were non-working. Stores are nearby, a few convenience stores walking distance, a Vons in the town of Isabella not far away. Kernville is nearby and there's all sorts of good eats and cool small town. You will need a fire permit, they're free, and take the test online. Camp host will ask.

Lake camping but close to the coast

It's a nice area, multiple camp grounds throughout the lake, some having hookups and other areas undeveloped and better for tent camping. Bathrooms and showers are typically clean but do get dirty during peak seasons. Showers cost money so bring quarters and it's hit or miss whether they have decent hot water. Roughly 15 miles from the beach entrance in Grover Beach so you get lucky with a marine influence during the evening. Can be windy and low lake levels. Also fires have been prohibited during fire season these past few years. This includes fires for cooking. Only electric or propane for cooking. It's super dry. Zip line and the water slides are cool and the marina rents all sorts of things. Fishing is decent. The marina has decent food and boose! Turkey, deer, and bear cruise through as well. Cool place for groups and families.
