Stayed here for a few nights with 3 other people. We had 1 big tent, 2 vehicles and a few dogs and had plenty of room. The road getting back to the site is a little sketch but worth the trip in. Just remember you have to make that trip all the way back out if you forget anything at the store (like we did) so be prepared to have plenty of food and wood. Water access is not problem if you have a good filtration system. The view of the river is absolutely beautiful!!
This spot was a little hard to locate because it’s on trust land and the spots look like junk piles. Yuck! There was so much ammo casings on the ground it looked like a war zone. Obviously the locals use it as a shooting range and do not clean up after themselves. We went on down dump road a little bit and found a spot tucked in the canyon and out of site of the road for a little wind break and privacy. I added that location because it was not as bad. Still to much trash laying around though. I don’t understand why people can not take care of these free resources so they are not taken away.
We had our itinerary set to stay at this site and then the weather turned terrible and it started snowing. We only had a tent with us and the wind was whipping so we had to pack up and head to Red Lodge. I was SOO disappointed because I had been so excited to spend the night here. Unfortunately I couldn’t convince nature to cooperate. We already have plans to buy a camper van and return to this site next year because the view is worth the trip!
My daughter and I stayed here for 1 night. We arrived at dark and was so lucky to find one spot still available that my suv could access. There were more open spots on back the road but you need 4 wheel drive because the pot holes were pretty deep. We woke up to the most beautiful view. It was a crispy morning in late August so my daughters campfire breakfast and coffee were ad amazing as the view. Make sure you go get your sandwiches from cross creek in Jackson before your hike. It is a short jaunt and the sandwiches are soo worth it!!! If you are hiking from Jenny Lake get there early because the spots fill up really quick.
The hike in to this site had amazing views of the canyon. Perfect spots to set up camp and hike back to the top of the canyon and have dinner with our of this world views. Bring your bug spray because the mosquitoes are terrible. This site is at the head of the trail so you won’t get all the passerby’s. Permit IS required to stay at this site
Stopped for 1 night before heading to the Badlands and stayed in a tent. We had a great flat spot to set up and admire the view.
Stayed 1 night in a tent and the view was incredible. Wish there wasn’t so many loud kids and families would keep their children under control but hey the view was worth the noise we had to put up with.
This is trust land so you will see where a lot of people come back here to target practice. Sadly they do not clean up any of their trash. The area is nice, large and very private.
