I couldn’t make it all the way to lake Irwin so I parked in overflow parking and bushwacked down the hill to pitch a tent.

There are way too many bugs at that lake for any fun IMO

I came late around 8pm Tuesday night and all the sites along the river were booked.

I drove up and up and up along the road to an amazing epic view of the mountains. Even if you get access early on the road along the river you have to drive up the mountain on the INCREDIBLY SMOOTH ROAD but it’s dangerous so please be cautions around corners.

I turned around at a pull off and settled for a pull off campsite on a corner. It was alright but not as good as river campsite. I’m surprised usually the feds don’t let you park 100 ft near. A source of water.

Did I mention the quality of that road? Dam.. so smooth

The road has huge gashes and impossibly to diagonally do a dance to get through it

AVOID THE BOULDERS IN THE ROAD, will scratch car, do a diagonal dance up the path and you’ll be fine.

I drive up in a sedan and almost made all the way to the lake. Ended up parking half a milf from the lake and hiked the rest of the way. Good think I have a backpack and just couple luxury items.

The campsites were way too close together. I don’t know why ??? It’s not necessary. Everyone came out and just hung out at the lake anyways . I would have ratheres a more private site where I can play music and let me cat roam more

The lake was beautiful and the sunset hits it so hard it glows. Also that crazy mountain village that collapsed and is now rubble is trippy unique

First of all there is no pull out at the coordinates. In fact it represents just as a reference for the highway road off the 80 highway you go along 196 and there are pull off roads leading to either straight up the side of a mountain or along the valley.

I parked at lone rock which is basically just a shooting range. You name it they obliterated it with ammo. Oh well I climbed to the top of the lone rock which was pretty epic. Fucking windy night and dusty I hate dust so much. Maybe if I parked down road inside the sagebrush it would have broke the wind. Also lone rock was full of trash :(

Glad I live in lush Colorado away from these deserts. Except alamoda area I guess.

First of all there is this weird moon sand alkali ash dirty shit everywhere. Shit gets in your socks lol so wear sandals or something.

Don’t tent camp at the first road at the entrance, it may be private from the river but at night all the way to 1am visitors are walking and talking up and down that road it kinda pissed me off but I probably chose a bad spot. Maybe just go a bit further up stream, yes it’s a great idea to camp further up stream so you don’t have to deal with visitors and shit who aren’t even spending the night.

AMAXING spot tho the night ski was crackling with white stars. It was windy during the day to keep the heat off and strangle not windy at all night. (Peaceful sleep if not for the guests talking ) And again fuckin windy in the morning lol.

There are many group sites and single sites. Many sites own a corner turn. Also your entire campsite will be visible to every car passing. There are other sites on the other side of the road that are more private. Be wary the road is very dangerous getting in. Take it slow.

Some people park their trailers at lake front but beware of the dune sand , you might get stuck.

I love being able to jump into the lake and ride my bike along the lake.

Perhaps a little too close to the university in Logan Utah it was busy that Friday night. I think all the spots filled by 7pm some 50 people there that night. There is close spots for small couples and large groups and also more private spacious spots for people with pets like me

Be careful there is a 5$ per car fee sneaking at the entrance. Pretty good trails on the way up but like in the Titlr I wasn’t able to make it

I was on my way to alamosa when I suddenly saw the great mountains near Buena vista. I checked The Dyrt and found a great spot. It’s 15 minutes from town. Has well maintained ports potties at the entrance. Beautiful spots with plenty of of interesting vegetation

FYI in the spring summer is way more fun to sleep inside the sand dunes with a parking permit you buy at that lot. The hike up into the dunes is epic but yes this is free and last minute high capacity. Sand dunes camping has a 10 or 15 person per day

The Dyrt has a weird seemingly inaccurate map however the road leading out to the dunes did in fact had a dirt road that branches right off towards the mountain.

The Dyrt map says Mt Blanco road but Apple Maps says lake Como road. They both branch off highway 150. There is obvious signs of dispersed camping used ie firepit and a randomly left behind camping item

The weather I was very skeptical about. thought i would have to book a hotel. Last time I went camping per review off of Idaho springs down Fall River road it was snowed in even tho the main road was fine. After I got through the very snowy and icy mountain pass from Walsenburg to for garland it became very dry and there was no more snow.

Roads were in great condition driving up there in my FWD sedan but what appeared to be the entrance was not maintained and snowed over

I drove here December 16th on a sunny day. Take the exit onto Fall River Road from the highway, a short road. You are then soon connected with forest service road of sorts York gultch. This connects a lot of off grid housing to the highway. well maintained crushed dirt.

At the GPS coordinates there are 3-4 drive in campsites and then a road that might lead to more. Idk I hiked around 1 mile and didn’t see other spots, you might have do drive in a couple more mirles

I spent the night here while I partied in Idaho springs for a mini vacation

drove here in toyota prius. There is a parking lot at the entrance to the dispersed camping where it forks into two roads to access parking spots. The forest service road was in amazing condition to access it.

I decided to hike up ontop a large rock formation because i wanted the killer views. Just enough dirt up there to pitch a tent.

There is dispersed camping along the river where a lot of rv’s were pitched up. I didnt want to be near any of them cause im tent camping

I came here labor day weekend. Busy af. Be careful driving along the highway to the entrance here the roads are windy and the mountain rocks come pretty close to the road.

When i got to pingree road/forest service road it was dirt/gravel well maintained i drove my toyota prius.

Lots of drive in campsites and a bunch of shoulders where you can park and hike into the campsite which is what i do cause im not a glamping sissy

I counted 30 campsites easily on a nice hike around all the campsites. I used wg1 the closest campsite cause i had to tide my bike into town to work each morning.

I recommend one of the campsites wg8-11 they have a massive view of. But wg1 is the closest i didnt mind.

They have a poopoo toilet and clear poopoo rules posted on the sign and map at around wg3

The camping spots ate right next to the canyon toad which weaves through. So many large boulders which look incredible. And there is a nice river.

You can bring a small sedan into the canyon road its not bumpy. First come first serve i was able to find a spot.
