Camping amidst redwoods is an experience not soon forgotten. The campgrounds were spacious with fire rings and picnic tables. The towering redwoods make you feel like you've been transported to an alien planet. It is conveniently located near the 101 highway and was decently priced ($15). The only downside worth noting is when entering the bathroom you feel like you are walking into a butcher shop in a horror movie.
The campground is very beautiful located by Two Medicine Lake and between large mountains. There are many campsites which offer different views and allow for different types of campers (rvs, cars, walk-ins). The sites had water spickets, dumpsters, and bear boxes near by, but not all sites have them. If you use a tent be prepared to not put your anchoring spikes in to hold the tent down as there is a thick rock layer just under a thin layer of dirt. Another downside to the campground is the road to get there is very rough. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. There was a park ranger who held camp gatherings which was a fun option to have. The wife and I really enjoyed utilizing the numerous trails around the campground. One of our favorite campgrounds we have gone to!
The campground is located at the bottom of a canyon with Calf Creek running through the middle. You have to drive through (yes through not over!) the creek to get to the majority of campsites. If you have a low suspension you may need to rethink camping or at the very least be careful picking when you go since the water level rises with rain. The site my wife and I stayed at had a picnic table with a large awning To provide shade and cover from rain. There is a suspension bridge to walk over the creek to get to flushing toilets if you don't want to use a pit toilet. There are water spickets located around the campground too.
The campsites are large and there must have been around a hundred on different loops. There are trees that provide shade and the ground was flat enough to lay two tents down. Each site had a large bear box. Near by is a trailhead and a convenience/grocery store. There was a wasp problem by the water faucets. They must have nested in the drain in the ground.
The campsite was located near the Sand Hollow Reservoir. The campsites consisted of mostly sand with little vegetation and no trees by the individual sites. There is much to do in the park like swimming, boating, and renting recreational vehicles to ride around sand dunes. I enjoyed the option to get a key to get back into the park at night. The campsite was clean and provided fire rings and picnic tables at each side. All in all my wife and I enjoyed the feel of remoteness while having some amenities like showers and flushing toilets. It is also conveniently close to Saint George.
