Location, Location, Location

This is a great campground at a great location. There are not many campgrounds right on the great lakes that are not run by the state of Michigan. There are quite a few sites that are right on the water. Some of them are very narrow as they try to pack in as many as possible by the water. I can understand some that have complained about small sites because they are tight. We were on site 1047 which is a large bridge view site. Our awning faced the water so anytime we were outside we had amazing views of both the bridge and Mackinac Island. We saw some amazing sunrises and sunsets. The nice thing is if you don’t have a site right on the water they have fire pits and benches all along the lake shore. Every evening there were groups of campers hanging out there around the campfire and watching the sunset. Or just hanging a hammock and relaxing. This is really an excellent location for a campground. It is close to Mackinaw city, the Mackinac bridge, and Saint Ignace. There are also three shuttles that will pick up in the campground and take you to the Starline ferry to Mackinac Island. They have a huge camp store that sells pretty much any thing you’d need: beer, wine, food, camping supplies, wood, ice, & a large selection of campground merchandise. They had a nice heated pool, basketball court, free mini golf and bike rentals. My only complaint is they did not have any activities going on at the campground, but I guess they figure when you’re so close to so many attractions maybe they don’t need activities. Overall it was a great few days here.

Used to be one of our favorites

This campground used to be one of our favorites but it seems things have changed a little since the last time we’ve been here. It’s still a nice campground but there were a few things we weren’t happy with. Let’s start with the pros though. The bathrooms are very clean, they have a heated pool, there is an AJ’s family fun center out front, it’s close to downtown Pentwater and the beach, and they have some nice merchandise in the camp store. Now the cons. There were absolutely no activities going on at the campground and it was Memorial weekend. Having camp activities is standard at most campgrounds and something our kids enjoy. I was very surprised by this. Another con is some of the camp sites were very overgrown . The grass on our site was about a foot long. I don’t think it have been mowed all year. The WiFi in the park was also very spotty. And finally they are extremely strict on their visitor policy. We had some friends show up that were camping near by. They wanted to check out our campsite to see if it was someplace they’d like to camp down the road. The office wouldn’t let them in unless they paid $5 per person which would of cost them $30. I tried to explain to them they weren’t staying more than a few minutes but it didn’t matter they wouldn’t allow it. Overall we had a good weekend but not sure if we’ll be back any time soon.

Golf Carts Galore

We had a great time at Hidden Ridge RV Resort. This is part of the Sun RV Resort group, which is a national chain. It’s a little pricier than other camp grounds but you get what you pay for. All sites are good size sites with a cement pad and very green grass. It is also very well run and maintained. Some of the things they have to do are swimming pool, playground, basketball courts, fishing, kayaking, jump pad, and lots of paved roads for bike riding. Because of the size of this campground most people get around by golf cart. We rented a golf cart from them, which our kids had a blast just going for rides around the campground. One downside to this place is there is not much shade. Most of the bigger trees are around the perimeter so most sites are in the sun all day. Overall we had a great time though and would definitely go back.

Extremely nice people

Had a great experience at this campground. Everybody was extremely nice. We couldn’t fit our trailer into the site we reserved. They were very understanding and found us a pull thru site to use. There was lots for the kids to do at the campground including playground, jump pad, mountain bike trails, hayrides, barrel rides, and a pool. Although we were there a little too early in the year to use the pool. They also offered plenty of activities throughout the weekend. Great place. Will definitely go back.

Lots to do

There is plenty to keep you occupied at this campground. Full disc golf course. Trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Basketball court and playground. Beach area for swimming and a pier for fishing. Sites were nice size. Some sites are pull through and many of the pads looked like they were fairly new. It was a little bit of a walk to the lake and disc golf area but not too bad. There is also a parking lot at the lake so you can always drive there as well. There is no camp store so you’ll have to drive to either Laingsburg or Ovid if you need anything.

Very clean well maintained campground

There is an AJ’s fun center there that has mini-golf, go carts and games. The campground has a pool. The bathrooms are the cleanest bathrooms I’ve seen at a campground. Everything at the campground was very clean and well maintained. They have a camp store that has lots of stuff and they have some really nice hoodies and t-shirts. Will definitely be back.

Great Family Campground

Lot’s of stuff to do at this campground. Kids enjoyed fishing, mini-golf, jump pad, & play ground. There were 2 ponds for fishing. They had a bass fishing tournament Saturday and the winner won a free ice cream, which my son loved. The roads around the campground are paved and great for bike riding, skateboarding, scooters, or just taking a walk. They deliver firewood to your site, which is a plus. They even have a pizza place and ice cream shop on site. All the staff were extremely nice and helpful. We enjoyed a really nice fall weekend here. This campground will definitely be on our list of campgrounds to visit annually.

Small sites

The sites were very small at this campground. Our fire pit was so close to our trailer we didn’t dare use it. There is a small playground for kids but not much else to do. They advertise disc golf but there are only 2 baskets on the playground within a few feet of each other. Not an actual disc golf course. There are hiking trails but unfortunately we were not able to use them due to it being hunting season. Won’t be camping here again any time soon.
