Claimed a spot early in the day on our way to the Bristle Cone Schuler Grove.
Campground pretty basic, essentially a place to camp that does include outhouse (seems like only 1 was open), tables, and a fire pit.
Quiet, not crowded, clear skies and lots of stars.
High elevation. One of 4 nights in a row for us where we camped between 8500 and 10000 ft.
Caught it on day 1 of opening for the season (June 10, 2022). All first come sites for a bit. At just shy of 10,000 ft, air can be abit thin. A few patches of snow nearby.
Great camp sites. Mostly singles. But some doubles, triples as well. Close to Trumble lake, but also walking distance to Little Virginia, Virginia, Blue, and Red Lakes.
Didn't do any fishing, but lots of others were. Great little lodge/restaurant nearby at Little Virginia Lake.
Showed up early with intent of finding open first come site. 2 or 3 avail at 10 ish in morning. Ended up with one of the reserved sites that recently canceled for 2 nights. Great site, lots of privacy. In long bed 1 ton with an AT Overland Habitat.
Was pretty warm while there. Managed to find a little slot canyon in the rocks 30 yards from our site. Temp was 20 degrees or so cooler…Great find.
Small cg with about 13 sites. Great location in relation to the Visitor Center and the guts of the park. Paved sites surrounded by pinion/juniper forest. Good privacy. Nice pit toilets. No water in campground, but is avail at nearby Visitor Center. Trash cans throughout cg. Mostly a tent and/or smaller camper van/ pick up, and perhaps a very small trailer.
Only 3 other sites ocupied (looks primarily by hunters this time of year). Near lightly used hwy. Near Austin. Sites a bit unlevel but doable with 30 ft travel trailer. Slight trench from previous campers made it perfectly level.
Looks like it has been updated over the last few years. Nice tent pads, tables, fire pit, lantern post.
Combo of sites adequate for larger trailers (ours is 30 ft), as well as car and tent only spots. Extremely clean pit toilets. Quiet and dark.
Set among the aspen and other trees. 6 miles from GC NP entrance Station. Store, food trailer and gas station across the highway.
Looks like a muddy flood hit the nearby area a couple weeks ago. Mostly recovered, but nearby gas station and motel shut down. A bit rutted in the cg still from the flooding.
Gravel/dirt sites with a few small trees. Seems to be popular with the ATV crowd, but no issues.
Clean restrooms.
Great location for doing the Steens Mtn Loop and checking out Frenchglen. Best option with a Travel trailer. Couple miles on good, but dusty gravel road. Immaculate bathrooms.
Used it as a stop over on a trip between Wallowa SP and Redmond, OR. No reservations, no problem, as there were only 3 other RVs when we arrived at about 5 pm.
Green grassy area, gravel roads and pads. No hookups, nice day use area, nice short trails, and local history of the site.
