We were on a spring break road trip and camped here to break up the day. I loved this spot! There’s not much I can add to the other reviews other than emphasizing how much we enjoyed this campground. We had 4 families with kids and all managed to find great sites adjacent to one another. We could walk a short distance and fish or hike and the kids safely cruised around on their bikes. It was cold (March after all!) but we had a big wood fire and roasted marshmallows. We fell asleep to two owls hooting back and forth in the nearby trees.
We tend to seek out primitive, dispersed campsites and this was certainly that. It was much different than I was expecting but it grew on me. It’s more of a hot, shallow creek with some deeper sections. We all got in and the kids had a great time. We only spent one night, as it was on our way to the next destination and I can say it’s not a place I would recommend as a special trip unless you live fairly close. Maybe that’s because there were more people camping than I was expecting and there were a lot of ATVs and dirt bikes cruising past our campsite. I tend to think of hot springs as quiet and relaxing and this was not the vibe while we were there. Glad I saw it though and we had a nice time. We were on a spring break trip in March and woke up to a dusting of snow, which made the view even more spectacular.
We needed a place to camp for two nights at the start of our spring break trip. We were impressed that we found several riverfront sites available on a Saturday evening with several additional sites on each side for our friends to join us. The sites are narrow, wedged between the river and the road, but once we parked our trailer, we had a private spot to hang out. The bathroom was clean and there were trash cans available. Cell service wasn’t great but we were able to send intermittent text messages on Verizon. We did the nearby Chimney Rock hike one afternoon and it was great.
