We’ve been wanting to check out this campground for a couple years but never seem to make reservations in time. Finally secured our first weekend in early June. It was the perfect getaway from our in-home quarantine and just an hour and a half away. This campground it’s so lovely and the hosts Jennifer and Brian are very nice and amenable and kept the bathrooms and common spaces very clean. Due to Covid and fire restrictions we could not take hot showers or use the fire pit. But no big deal. We were right on the lake with plenty of space between our neighbors especially since they have to do 50% occupancy. The Colorado Trail runs through the campground and whether you do a quick toddler hike to the waterfall or a much longer hike down to the river there is just so much to do here and to explore. We forgot our paddleboard but we will remember to bring it next time, and fish in the middle of the lake. They stocked it with hundreds of trout that you can also eat if you’d like. Our neighbors caught a few and gave us want to try. We booked two more trips to this campground, we wanted to capitalize on the availability since it is very limited.
We looked at the reserve sites in B but most of them were taken or had a one night only sign on it. Loop A it's first come first serve and it had a couple nice open spots with a view. We arrived little late on a Friday evening, we live about two hours away, it was raining on our way up but stopped when we got there and a rainbow appeared while we were unpacking and setting up. there are picnic and charcoal only cooking stations at every site, our picnic area was a tiny walk down the hill. and from that area if you keep waking for 20 minutes you get to the edge of the cliff and it is spectacular views of the bookcliffs, Grand valley and grand Mesa. The night stargazing was pretty good although there is a bit of light pollution coming from Grand Junction We have a three-year-old so major biking or hiking is not necessarily an option so we went into town for the day, it was really hot at the campsite during the day. we explored Fruita farmers market, the dinosaur museum and had a really yummy lunch at Camille's café. There are also a couple little hikes right off the campground in the visitor center is nearby for more education. Fellow campers were kind of close but quiet. The bathroom was really clean with running water.
Our first time out in our popup camper, and kinda our first time really camping. Just my husband, 3.5 year old daughter and me. We wanted to be a little bit "off the grid" but not too much. We live in Montrose so this was perfect. We had debated Silverjack campgrounds or Big Cimarron which is 2 miles down mountain towards HWY 50. We decided on BC b/c I loved the running river next to the campground, it also felt more private and secluded. IT WAS. We loved it. The mosquitos were out in full force, who cares… the 2nd night it rained and cooled off and they went away. We were able to wash off in the river. Sleeping was glorious with the sounds of the river. We stayed in site 11 which was at the end and in the cul de sac, near the bathroom. It's a little bigger than the other sites, except site 12 looked nice for larger rv campers (and it was more grassy than dirt.) We loved it here. Memories of our first time camping as a family will last forever.
