First, access. From the road the 2nd bridge (start of dispersed) is 2.2 miles. This is the same road to rainbow hot springs trail. I camped 5 nights. The river was incredible. Had my dog with me, no problems with pets. Abundant chipmunks and hummingbirds. Don’t be confused by the West Fork campground operated by the forest service (they have potable water and vault toilets). Lows in 50’s and highs in the low 80’s. South wind until dusk, then north every night. Mosquitoes were manageable, flies were pretty bad
This space was very cool. Regrettably it was a stop over point just to sleep. Got some rain right when we arrived so exploring was limited. They’re currently cutting new sites! Several are completely open. The East side of the road is in progress. Look for the turn in to FS542 on the right. There are signs pretty well marked. If you pass the bend in the road, you’ve gone too far. Nice fire rings and ground mulch base. 4 of 5 bars AT&T 5G. There are some pretty bad ruts, but slowly getting there, passenger cars should be okay
Incredibly easy to access. Several spots to accommodate a camper. Was passing through, only hiked the rim trail for a morning wake up. $2 for the night. SUPER CLEAN VAULT TOILETS.
24/7 security. Gated access to camp areas. 4 clean bathroom/bathhouse. Putt putt golf. Great fishing lake access. No swimming spot - rumor of gators in water
