Great base camp

This is one of my favorite campgrounds, because Colorado National Monument is so stunning. It provides a great "base camp" set up, allowing you to set up camp for a night or several and go for day hikes around the park. Part of the campground is situated close to the canyon rim, so you don't need to go far for expansive views, but if you'd rather stay away from the heights, the majority of the sites are far enough away. Sites are well-screened & relatively secluded by short scrubby trees.

Small, quiet, serene

Bellaire Lake Campground, located in the Red Feather Lakes region, is a hidden gem. With only 26 sites and situated at an elevation of 8,600 ft, it is serene and secluded. The interesting rock formations typical of the Red Feather Lakes area can also be found at this campground. Less than a mile away is Bellaire Lake, which is ideal for fishing, non-motorized boating, or enjoying a picnic.

Off the beaten path

Little Maud Campground is a pretty campground next to Ruedi Reservoir, which is quite large and open to both motorized and non-motorized boating. This campground, while still very accessible, is a bit off the beaten path (14 miles east of Basalt, CO) and therefore nice and quiet.

4 stars out of 5 because the campground is pretty open (not many trees), so there isn't much privacy.

Great for fishing & families!

The sites at Cottonwood Lake Campground are surrounded by a large grove of aspens, so they're relatively secluded. The campground is situated about a quarter mile from Cottonwood Lake, a small, pretty lake with a wide boatlaunch area - no motorized boats allowed though! The last part of the road to get to the campground is dirt, but it is well-maintained so nearly any car can handle it. The campground is also nearby the Cottonwood Hot Springs and Buena Vista if you need a nice soak and a pizza after a long day of fishing! 4 stars out of 5 because it is lacking in expansive views.
