Beautiful area!

Nice, wide open areas! Beautifully maintained park, great staff, LOVE the care and attention that they've put into restoring and preserving the older buildings.

Great Park!

Another great state park! Lots of areas to explore!

Rougher, older campground. Lots of permanent, somewhat run down campers. Pool, playground, bluegrass festivals.

Older campground

Older campground. Lots of permanent sites (mainly on one side of campground). Wooded. Pool, rec room. Staff is nice.

Love State Parks

Smaller campground. 33 sites, only a handful for larger rigs. Mostly level. E/W only. Dump station. Two lakes, lots of places to walk/hike, explore.

Trying to revitalize

Seems like they're trying to bring this campground back up to what it use to be. Older campground. Staff was younger people who weren't all that interested in anything other than getting you in and out. Sites were somewhat level. They do have a cockroach issue, but maybe that's because of the wooded-ness and leaf litter.

Ok campground

Friendly staff. Sites somewhat level, very small and packed in. On the water.

Gorgeous place! Well maintained, SO MUCH history! Enjoyed ranger led program and the enthusiasm the rangers have about the place!

Middle of nowhere

Nice get-away from it all campground. Level sites, farmland all around. Well maintained, quiet campground.

Agree with others

Ok for an overnight, not really a destination place. LOTS of long term campers, lots of construction workers staying here to work on jobs in area.

Ok place to camp. Wooded areas, sites are a little tight. Lots of permanent sites.

One of VA's "dark parks". We've enjoyed their astronomy programs a bunch of times! Enjoyed "first day hikes" here and the ranger led programs. Great place to relax and unwind!

And another great VA State Park!

Love Chippokes! Feels country-esque but also like you're on a plantation! Beautiful trails. Great (paved) campground! Feels like you're a million miles away from it all.

On the bay

Too crammed for our liking. Know lots of people that stay here and love it, seems like more of a party campground. Beautiful grounds.

Not a bad campground, nice area. LOTS of overhead noise from jets (you do get use to it).

Some people in the campground started BLARING music at 2am and just partying hard. Tried to contact ANYONE to make it stop, but no one ever answered phones or contacted us back (or said anything to the obnoxious people). Said something to staff the next day and they didn't seem to care. Won't be back.

Love VA State Parks!

Great campground! Right on the water (just walk over the dune!). Sites are not as spacious as other VA State Parks, but you're still not crammed on top of each other.

GREAT walking/hiking area across the road from campground. LOTS of trails to spend the day on!

Great campground

Use to camp here every summer! Brought my kiddos here, it's the same as I remembered!

Older campground, lots of sites. No real place to swim on the bay, but they do have a pool. Beautiful area.

Long term stay

We didn't stay in the "front" part of the campground (with all the weekenders), we stayed in the "long term" stay campsites waaaayyyy in the back. We were there 2-3 months.

Weekends definitely get busy. Staff is helpful. Boat ramp access, FHU, pool and plenty of room to stretch your legs. Sites up front are a little crammed together, but level. Not a bad place to stay.

Not too bad

As far as KOA's go (being hit or miss), this one is a hit! Clean KOA, good place to walk around. Outdoor pool, playground, access to trail.

The only real downside we had was the amount of noise from the surrounding area. LOTS of bass and loud music in middle of the night.

It's ok

Neat idea behind the campground. Was VERY dirty- trash all over the place. Did get a good walk around the campground. Staff was nice, area was nice. Sites are tight and again, very trashy.
