Travel stop

We camped in on of the cabins overnight on a recent road trip. Cabins are nice and spacious, bath facilities are some of the best I've seen. We didn't;t get to explore since we were traveling, but there's plenty to do in the area.

Jackrabbit

A great campground which seems to get more popular with each passing year. Three loops, loops A and B are best for families with children and older campers, loop C has a few sites with steps and tripping roots.

The lake is beautiful and the water surprisingly warm, even in late spring - early summer. There's good mountain biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, kayak, and SUP to pass your time, or simply relax in a hammock in the shade.

Facilities are adequate and cleaned daily, dump station on site.

Tsali

This is one of our favorite local campgrounds. Sites are first come, first serve, most sites are in the open with a few more private sites around the edge. A great spot for mountain biking on the Tsali trail system, close to the Appalachian Trail, close to the Nantahalad river for kayaking and rafting. Good access to Lake Fontana for kayaking, SUPing and swimming.

Pisgah Forest

Davidson River Campground is perfectly situated for outdoor activities, plenty of hiking (Art Loeb Trail), good fishing, mountain biking and climbing available all within a stone's throw from camp. Sites by the river can get a little crowded, more secluded sites are in the outer loops. There is a nice swimming hole at camp and the bathhouses are well kept.

Riverside camping

This is a great spot located right next to USA Raft. There are a handful of tent only riverside camping spots with RV sites set back from the river. A short trail brings you to Cherokee Beach where you can swim and chill out, or float in a tube back to your campsite. Camp can get a little noisy if you are in the RV area though.
