For a weekend that just started out wrong (double conjunctivitis, sinus infection, son didn’t seat the camper correctly on the ball hitch… yep, we dismounted my friends!) The campground was a terrific place to get some much needed rest and relaxation. The secluded spots are a friendly distance from your neighbors and the water was peaceful and serene.
Great place to commune with nature.
An enjoyable site near the unincorporated portions of the Outer Banks. We ran late on arrival due to a serious comedy of errors. The campground office reserved and assigned an electric site with water for us since we had paid months in advance. Unfortunately, a self centered traveler had taken our site before we arrived! We spent the night sleeping in front of the office upon our very late arrival. The office got everything straightened out and the rest of our stay was pleasant.
The camp site was great. I had a pull thru site that provided more than enough space. Two cars and a camper could easily park in the drive, while a pop-up shelter and a tent also had plenty of space to not feel overly crowded. The swim beach was a half mile hike away through the mountain to sea trail. I opted out of swimming on July 4th due to crowding, but the next day was perfect. Soft sand covered the beach and warm yet comfortable water temperatures allowed for a refreshing dip or just relaxing on a float. The fishing piers were great too. The public access one had a bit of wear, but that didn’t stop a variety of fish from biting. We also watched graceful herons and playful aquatic turtles hunting for there dinner as we fished. The marina looked fabulous, but due to pop up storms we didn’t get to launch our kayaks. The bath houses were reasonably clean for a holiday weekend. Park rangers regularly monitors the site, so we felt very safe. I would recommend this location to anyone who loves adventure.
The staff were very accommodating as this was my first camping experience with a travel trailer. They took the time to get me perfectly backed into my site since the reservation map was a little misleading and appeared to be a pull through site. They are family oriented and camp kids are everywhere! They have a great little coffee shop. A fish pond and creek are available to explore, so boredom isn’t an option. There are some issues with night noise from neighboring sites, but a really good overall experience.
