Just for Tents!

This is one of several campground at Eagle Lake. The unique aspect of Aspen is it is set aside for Tent camping only. No RVs or cabovers are allowed here. It is set in shady pines just like the other campgrounds at the lake. All the usual amenities are here too. Picnic tables fire pits and nice bathrooms. A camp host is present. The campground sits near the water. Close by and to the east is the trail head for the beautiful Osprey Overlook trail. Overall a nice campground for the back to basics Tent camper.

Off the Beaten Path

This little gem of a campground is at exactly half way between Adin and Madeline in the middle of nowhere up a pretty good dirt road. Only a few sites and some not really suitable for a RV as they are not very level. I wouldn't venture in here if I thought the road would be muddy as it could get western real fast. If the conditions are right you could have it all to yourself. Ash Creek which runs right by the campground is lovely with good fishing.

Too Close to the Highway

The spot itself is nice, nestled near Willow Creek among aspen. The problem is it is so close to highway 139 you can hear every car go by. Also, they set a bathroom that acts as a rest stop right on the highway at the campground so essentially you are camping at a rest stop. For us that just invites a feeling we don't like where anyone traveling on the highway may decide to drop in.

Close to the Highway

Of all the campgrounds at Eagle Lake this is the least appealing. It sits quite far from the lake on a dry, dusty hill. There is one pit toilet bathroom and there is less shade with less trees. It does have the advantage of being very close to highway 139 and would be a good spot to stop for the night.

Further from the Lake

One of several campgrounds at Eagle Lake this one sits up on a hill under the trees and is a little further from the water. Lots of pull through sites are nice. Camp host on site. Many tall pines provide shade.

In Sight of the Lake

One of several campgrounds at Eagle Lake. We like this one because there are several spots close to the water and in the sun. In the heat of the summer there are plenty of spots deep under the thick pine trees that shade the area. In the shoulder seasons it's nice to camp in a sunny spot or at least have the option.

All the Things!

This is a very nice campground; one of several at Eagle Lake. This campground has all the amenities you could want. Lots of space in the tall trees that provide plenty of shade, picnic tables and fire pits. Camp host present to keep things quiet. Nice large bathrooms with flush toilets. This spot is close to the lake and the marina.

Close to the Biz Johnson Trail

This is a small campground with just a few spaces under shady pines. The campground is right along the Susan River that is reputed to have some pretty good fishing. If fishing isn't your thing the pretty, burbling river adds a zen quality to your stay. One of the main attractions for staying here is that it is right at the trail head for the Biz Johnson trail. This is a hiking, biking, horseback friendly trail that travels along an old Rail Road right of way from Westwood all the way to Susanville for a nice, mostly level path of 25 miles. There are picnic tables, fire pits and one pit toilet. It is a very quiet out of the way spot to stay.

Scout Camp at Fort Churchill

This campground is across the highway and at a turn off just south of Buckland Station. It is part of the Fort Churchill complex with a clearly designated campground called Scout Camp. It has all the amenities; picnic tables, fire pits and a pit toilets. There are equestrian facilities here as well in the form of corrals and pens. Tall cottonwood trees and Sage surround a large cleared area.

Small

So this a very small campground within the confines of Dayton State Park. There are just 10 sites and because of it’s proximity to Dayton it looks like there are homeless using the park. (Shrug). Nice sites with lots of shade. Bathroom is kind of far away. Close to the River there is lots of wildlife and birds.

Desert Oasis

Great little campground with plenty of shade for all nestled among ancient and stately cottonwood trees. Not many spots but that makes it nice. Large sagebrush and trees also provide privacy. Lots of birds and wildlife to observe as well. Close to the Fort Churchill historic fort for interest too.

A Little Road Noise.

This RV campground is right off I-80 and you can hear the busy noise from the highway. Putting that aside it is a beautiful little RV resort with lots of mature trees nestled on the very flanks of the mighty Sierra.

Boomtown Bonanza!

What a nice campground! Right off I-80 and close to the Boomtown Casino but oh so peaceful and quiet. This campground has everything for the RV camper. It is also close to the Truckee River and great fishing.

BLM cabin and dispersed

There is a pretty nice cabin that is first come first serve. In rougher weather this would be my go to. Great little wood stove in the cabin and shelter from the storm

Valley Views

Wonderful views of the mountains and the Carson Valley from this very nice RV campground. This place has everything. Beautiful setting and great, complete amenities. Lots of long term folks staying here but many overnight spots available most of the time.

Camping by the Lake

Nice campground situated close to the shores of Washoe Lake. Great amenities; picnic tables, fire pits and shade structures at many of the campsites. There are a lot of trees as well and pretty views all the way around the campground.

Wedged between Costco and highway 395

So this is a long term stay place that is right next to busy 395. Costco forms the other boundary. Not my kind of place to stay or go camping.

First to Review
Neat and Tidy

This campground is a longer stay place and almost always full. Shady and clean it’s a really appealing place to stay. Lots of amenities here with attendants and an office that is staffed with friendly people who are happy to help with anything you need. Laundry facilities and dump station available as well as propane to purchase. There is also a small pet area.

Dry and Hot

Perfectly nice campground with all the expected amenities. Pit toilets, fire pits and tables. My issue is it is placed on a hill to be close to the cave but no water source nearby and just kind of dry, hot and dusty.

Beautiful Lake!

This is one of three campgrounds on Antelope Lake near Susanville CA. Several of the sites are near the lake. All sites are well shaded with fir and pine trees. Great fishing and wildlife watching. Enjoy all water sports and beautiful lake. Reservations are required for most sites but a few are reserved for first come first serve.
