Soaking at hot springs after all day hike-priceless. Usually it is $15/day and you can go in and out as you wish but now it is $15 for 1.5 hours and reservation is needed due to limited occupancy. It is well maintained and clean. Campground is nice, no showers and they do have bear sightings so follow the rules strictly. Nice hiking trails in the area. The only negative part is 12 mile drive from the entrance to the campground.
I gave it 4 stars only because it is very far from nearest town (store) about an hour drive so come with everything you need. No showers. Beautiful spots, lake is 1 minute walk from the camp and in July the water was comfortably warm for swimming.
People don't come here to camp, they come here to party and there is a big difference. Loud partying all night long! While there is nothing wrong with partying, this should be designated as party central not as campground. There are no camp hosts or park rangers so when someone violent starts harassing you, there is nobody to help. While you might have a good luck on your visit here and all the campers are decent people, it doesn't change the fact that since there is nobody to enforce the rules or keep you safe you are at the mercy of good luck. Bathrooms are not well maintained either. No warm water for shower, no place to wash dishes. Drug addicts come at night to use restroom and showers and while lots of spots are far from showers, mine was right there and nobody around me so it feels really scary when one of them tried to look into my tent to see if I am there. They come here because they know there is no camp host or rangers or anyone watching over the campground.
Tent area is separate from RVs and it has lots of privacy. Camp host is very sweet, he brought fire wood to my tent. Nice trails and lake, nice bathroom/shower. It is about 100 yard walk through forested trail to showers and you can't park your car in your tent camp but it is small so the parking is very close. I like how forested the area is.
This is most beautiful place I camped this year. Enough privacy, serene, quiet… beautiful trails and creek. It is primitive campground, no restroom or showers, just one vault toilet and there is one water pump if you need to wash dishes. First week of June the weather was perfect.
I camped here during Memorial day weekend. It was crowded, lots of families with RVs. Bathrooms/showers are very clean and nice. Very dog friendly. Nice trails, beach access. Newport is only few minutes drive away and such a cute small coastal town. If you are tent camping and prefer more privacy and to be away from RV area I suggest "I" loop.
Loud highway is right there. I like how forested campground is. Not many people here. Showers were free ( at least at this time). Good value for the price. I liked the short hike to Sacramento river.
I didn't expect there will be actual elk there. I woke up to bunch of elk in front of my tent! Beautiful hikes, nice camp host and camp spots are in nice wooded area, some are by the creek, lots of privacy.
This is a primitive campground, no showers only vault toilets and restroom near visitor center ( 2 min walk from campground) both decently clean. Water for washing dishes is available. Spots are not close to each other so there is privacy. It is small, quiet, surrounded with beautiful views. Good hiking trails and good opportunity for bird watching, wild flowers viewing and plenty of deer around. From main road it takes about 35 min drive up the hill through narrow road which is paved but I don't think it is appropriate for RVs. It is a bit of hassle getting here but worth it! If you are car camping I advice NOT to choose drive in spots as it is not leveled but the parking where you have to walk to your camp spot is okay.
Nice location, golf course next to it, small marina with beach caffe and kayak rental. Downtown is about a mile walk ( or drive ) and it has a marina, shops and restaurants and whale watching tours. It is small but enough. Campground is crowded, hosts don't enforce the rules so it is loud at night and people walking around my spot. Spots are very close to each other also. It was very cold in May so I hope that I will come here again during the warmer time.
Camp hosts are friendly and they enforce the rules which I like because it was quiet at night and nobody was taking over my space. However, it is not a campground it is a parking lot where you camp. Bathrooms are dirty, hot shower doesn't always work, ground was full of some gophers who were digging holes so you have to watch your step and it is very wet and muddy. Spots are very close to each other, neighbor was less than 10 ft away. Location is great though, as the beach is right there and it is short walk to town with shops and restaurants. Otherwise this would be one star review. It is too expensive for what it is offered.
