A good option on a day when everywhere else was full

We ended up here as Stillwater (and everywhere else) was full. Despite it being for groups, the Forestry staff were sending people here as over flow option.

Campground has basic level sites (gravel) and 2 large communal shelters with 10 picnic tables in each.

No showers .

2 water spigots.

Easy access to the lake via paths & gravel beaches.

As described, there is no natural shade as replanted trees are only 3ft tall.

It smells like our Xmas tree!

This was what my eight year old son said when we arrived. Really nice primitive  campsites nestled amongst the trees. Lake is stunning but wind can be strong

So much to do

We stayed for one night in late June. The hot pool was a welcome destination after an afternoon of sliding down sand dunes and hiking back up.

Nice grass for tents.

Cafe menu is great.

Showers and washroom are good

Sand boards are available to hire

Such a gem!

We stayed one night on the way to Colorado and this is such a great place to camp. We had primitive site C4 which provided Mr 8 with boundless adventures scrambling in the rocks. The dinosaur tracks were also a bit hit.

Showers & toilets were clean albeit a bit dated.

The lake is a big attraction and we also chatted to a fellow camper who had a large telescope with him. We got to see Jupiter and it’s 4 largest moons at dusk. This whole area of New Mexico has really dark skies at night with so many stars visible

Nice surroundings beside the reservoir

We stayed on a Sunday night in early Summer on our road trip west. The lake was high due to flooding so we were moved the week before from our original booking at Hobie Beach. Really pleased with the primitive campsite we were at. Fire pit and picnic table was well maintained. On Sunday night the restrooms & showers were in need of a clean.

Nature trails are great for the kids.

Bait shop just outside the park entrance was well stocked including ice.
