Now called Fox Den RV and campground under new owners, this place is very close to the West Entrance of Yellowstone. Excellent WIFI and cell coverage, clean(but dated) bathhouse and laundry, lots of pine trees for shade. The back in spots can be a bit tight with rows of trees on both sides, but we were thankful for the shade and some wind protection. We were still able to almost fully extend our awning to keep pine needles off the picnic table. Close to the touristy streets that sell lots of souvenirs. The new owner seems nice enough. I thought the price was a bit high for what you get, but everything is pretty high in this area. Overall, a nice, clean quiet campground.
This campground is in a great spot near all the Jackson Hole happenings. The public bus is also free and the campground provides a schedule and detailed map of the city if you want to utilize that. The bathrooms and laundry room are clean and well stocked, hosts are pleasant and the pull thru site we were in was level and plenty big enough. The Virginian Lodge right next door has a very nice inner corridor with a new pool, 2 hot tubs and plenty of seating areas with fire pits and string lights. It is available for campground guests and open 10-10. The pool is heated and the hot tubs are large, very hot and relaxing. The lodge also supplies big fluffy towels to use onsite. We would love to stay here again for longer, but the price is very high (as is everything in Jackson Hole).
This is a great campground in Alpine WY. Level sites, full hook ups available, excellent wifi and cell service. There is a nice new bathhouse and laundry room (no laundromat in Alpine, so even if you don't camp here you can come use the laundry). The owner has upgraded the grassy areas, offers nice places to sit and hang out, live music at the restaurant/saloon at the entrance with upgrades bring made to the kitchen in order to offer breakfast and dinner options as well. Located right next to the Snake River with mountain views.
Crooked Creek is a great option in Hill City. The camp hosts are very welcoming and accommodating and have been coming back to work as seasonal hosts for years (that in itself tells you something.) The campground is well kept with new amenities being added. There are sites with concrete back porches that offer adirondack chairs and fire pits, sites offering furnished wooden decks that overlook the creek, plenty of fish watching and soothing sounds of running water. There are cabins, a Lodge, a fitness center, store, very warm heated pool, playground, a nice concrete and covered stage with seating and propane fire pits that hosts live music thurs-sun. We were able to enjoy listening to CJ and Woody one night with a cold drink in hand, warmth from the fire pit and great company while our kids played on the playground right next to us. Good quality wifi and cell service (hard to find in Hill City), clean bathhouses and a nice walkable campground. Mickelson bike/walking trail is directly behind the campground. There are plans in the works to offer food more regularly (right now, there's a bbg food vendor that comes on some weekends) and an entire new section of camping in the 12 acres they purchased. Some people have complained that the spaces are too tight and they can't get their awnings out because of trees. After driving around Hill City and seeing some of the rv parks calling themselves Resorts, i will gladly take a smaller site that offers some natural shade from the trees. Besides, the wind picks up rather quickly in the area so the awnings have to be watched closely. I wish we had stayed longer.
This campground might be a 4 star place in about 5 years. Currently, it is a big open gravel lot, very dusty, construction work all day long with big heavy machinery to move rock and lay dirt where they will plant soft landscaping. I imagine the trees will not provide any shade for years and this parking lot is in direct sun. We found nails and screws, cigarette butts and dog food at our "site". They offer a table and metal stacking chairs at each site, but i could not imagine eating a meal there; the dust does not settle. There is a construction restroom trailer parked here that is clean, but wreaks of sewage and has no water pressure for the showers. At $100/night peak season, $75/night fall and winter, the price is just plain unreasonable. There really should be a deep discount for the construction phase. The ladies working in the temporary office trailer are very nice and the wifi is great. There is an awesome new grocery store in the adjoining parking lot. They claim to be upfront about construction going on, but this is literally a construction site that they are trying to pass off as a campground. It is not ready for guests.
I had high hopes for this campground in Hill City based on other reviews i had read, but overall it was a disappointing campground. Positives: Central location in Hill City, very close to Needles highway and Sylvan Lake. The pool is heated and the campground has a nice layout with play equipment and 2 bathhouses. Negatives: there is NO wifi or cell service, yet they advertise as having it. We have Cell plans with Verizon, At&t and Google Fi (which bounces off multiple tours) and none of our services worked except right next to the main bathhouse. Prices in the camp store are incredibly high, cheap apartment-sized washers and dryers, and owner and employees seem annoyed when you come into the store, even at check in. The icing on the negative cake were the three teenagers and a young boy that were staying with a lady running the camp that were allowed free reign of the campground. I had to remove my kids from the pool because of their nasty talking, f-bombs, calling each other b***h. I will not stay here again. There are way too many campgrounds in the area with better service.
