Closest campground to the beach

North and South Nicolet Bay campgrounds is where the action is. It felt like spring break out at the beach and boat ramp (no pets allowed on beach).

North Nicolet has no power sites, all are no hookups. There is a dump station and water fill near Tennison Bay campground.

Campground is very close to the beach, and you definitely hear the shrieking children from the beach, especially if you get a site close to the beach like we did, so heads up.

There’s a host on site, flush toilets, and showers. Recycling and garbage here as well as a playground.

Spectacular Park

I’ll be very forward in saying PSP is one of the best state parks we’ve ever stayed at/explored but I took one star off due to the terrible bathrooms. We stayed in the tennison bay campground and it was fantastic. Our site was medium sized and fit our large tent well. Our neighbors were very respectful so our stay was very peaceful. The trails/views at PSP are some of the best we’ve experienced in the Midwest. We hiked over 9 miles and it was fantastic every step of the way. Really wish I would have brought my clubs because the golf course in the park looked amazing. As I mentioned, one star deducted for the terrible bathrooms not only in our campground but throughout the park. For how insanely popular this park is, you would think they would get priority in funding for a refresh on the bathrooms. They were very old/dirty with many having stalls and showers out of order. I normally shower every morning when camping and I opted to skip the showers entirely. With that said, the park itself was spectacular and I look forward to coming back.

Peninsula SP is a Must

I have hear so much about Peninsula that when I had the opportunity to visit I took it. Also, it’s the first time that I used my hammock tent…which was awesome.

So much to do, visit Ephraim, surrounding county parks, stargazing, Wilson’s ice cream! There is so much to do in this area while staying at Peninsula State Park.

Simply perfect

Absolutely beautiful and huge park on the tip of the Door Peninsula. Spacious sites that are mere steps to the water. It honestly could be your entire vacation with fantastic hikes, biking trails, swimming beach, well stocked store, kayak and canoe rentals, golf, a theater and more. There is no shortage of fun to be had here. Came in mid July and still found a spot. This place is a gem!

Crowded seclusion

Beautiful wooded area with ready access to the water. Fantastic shower facilities. You do feel a bit packed in with your fellow campers at the adjacent sites. Not a heck of a lot of privacy.

It’s just right

We are pop up people and love that, while campers love their big trailers these days, Nicolet bay has stayed the same. Not many of the sites have electric. We’re okay with that. Not much is the way it was in Door county, but this state park is a good one. The bethrooms are nice and clean the showers are good.

This campground is the best of all worlds. Perfect opportunities to hike , Bike, kayak and much more! Located right outside fish creek, easy to hop into town to enjoy shops and local cherry orchards!

Amazing!

Beautiful park with an awesome beach! They serve food and rent out kayaks and paddle boards! The sites are nice sites. You have to walk a ways to the beach but totally worth it. The bike trails are awesome

Large and Beautiful, In the Best Area!!

Peninsula State Park is one of five State Parks in the area!! It is by far the largest and therefore also the most busiest. Book your campsites early because this is a hard park to get a campsite at on the fly. They do offer some non reservable sites but they go fast as well. This Park is off of Hwy 42 in beautiful Door County!, right on the Bay of Green Bay. There are many trails to hike and bike here, a beautiful beach, and plenty of sight seeing in the park. This park offers numerous campgrounds and each has a different atmosphere. The further from the beach the quieter it gets. The facilities are clean and showers are modern. There is a camp store located at the beach as well. The Sunset Bike Trail is a trail that travels through the park and is mostly crushed stone. Bike rentals are available in the park near the beach or just outside the park on HWY42 just across the street at a local bike store. The observation tower no longer stands at the park as it was recent taken down in 2017 due to structural issues but there are still plenty of view to see in the park without it. The Eagle hiking trail is a must and not too challenging but will lead you to some cool cave formations.

If your hoping to escape the busy park you won't have much luck outside the park. The whole peninsula is towns and villages full of shops, art studios, wineries, ice cream shops, confectionaries, restaurants and even a drive-in movie theater.. If I make it sound overwhelming, it is because it can be. But even with all this going on and a festival almost every weekend, the area and park are enough to make me come back every year..multiple times!! That isn't to say it is never quiet. If you go in the winter months or even March through May, you get a sense of what the area has to offer without the crowds. If you would like a more quiet atmosphere I would suggest other parks in the area that offer camping. Aside from park camping there are also numerous modern campgrounds available in the area. Either way you won't be disappointed with your trip to Peninsula State Park

Crowded...crowded

I wanted to give 2 out of 5 stars but felt that would be unfair since we only experienced one campsite area, South Nicollet area. Very crowded, basically all RV's with families, we were in ear shit of crying babies and dogs with small dog syndrome! If RV'ing is your thing, this might be 5 out of 5 but for tent camping it's incredibly loud and crowded. Virtually no privacy beside maybe a couple spots. I've heard Tennison bay campsites are more secluded? Maybe that's the way to go, so book in advance, and go for campsites in the outer circles of the areas! I'd recommend hitting up eagle trail early before it gets busy, very unique trail but bring ankle support lots of rocks. And rent a canoe/kayak lots of great views. I can def see coming back to PSP but only for a day pass. I'd pass on this one if you prefer tent camping.

Lots of tourist.

The secret is out on this place it was super busy. The campground was great and it felt very secluded with lots of greenery and wildlife. The hiking trails were marked very well and lead straight out of the campground. We rented some Kayaks and bikes which was nice because we didn't have room to pack ours. The mountain has some cool caves to explore. The beach was nice to relax on but very busy with tourist. If you stay here make sure and check out all the cool features of the state park. Make sure and check out the Lighthouse it was awesome.
