Developed campground with pit toilets and more modern amenities within walking distance, full cell phone reception and flushing toilets. There is a central parking area and each campsite is a short walk from the car to the picnic bench and fire ring. Short trees and sagebrush offer some privacy between campsites. The site we stayed in was a bit cramped even though we had three, two-man tents. You can walk to the visitor center from the campsites.

Beautiful views of Guadalupe peak. The star gazing was decent, not as great as some other parks (Big Bend NP, Joshua Tree NP). We didn't have time to summit Guadalupe Peak but we did the Frijole Ranch Museum and the Smith Spring Trail which was great.

We arrived after traveling the long journey into Big Bend National Park and were excited to camp in the Chisos Basin but the campground was full. We were informed that there were spots open at Rio Grande Village, and we quickly found out why. We were there in early March and the temperature was already into the low 90's during the day with wet and muggy nights in the low 80's.

The campsites are open with little to no privacy or sound barriers to block out the noise from generators. The one plus side to an open campground is that you can see the Javelinas before you can smell them. The temperature made most day hikes nearly uncomfortable so we resigned to swimming most of the day away.

I camped at Watchman Campground during a road trip with a friend. We were there in late winter (February to March) which made for easy parking, camping, and hiking. There were other campers and travelers but the campground offered plenty of space for a comfortable camping experience. There was a steel fire ring for a campfire, firewood was quite expensive at the store near the park entrance. This is a developed campground with restrooms within walking distance to all campsites. This campground is close to amenities and allows for full cellular connectivity, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your camping preference.

During our visit the shuttles were not in service but there was ample parking at each trailhead. We hiked the Emerald Pools and Angels Landing Trails. I cannot say enough about Angels Landing, this was by far the most beautiful and fun hike I have been on.
