Rustic FC/FS Campground in Pictured Rocks!

This campground is about a 15 drive on a dirt road south of H-58 that runs along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There’s only 4 sites, 1 vault toilet, and the water pump could not be used at the time we stayed(gave directions for nearby Cusino Lake Campground) Its first come, first serve with self-registration - only one other site was occupied when we stayed. We were going to stay at North or South Gemini Lake, which has 8 sites each, but North was busy and South only had 2 sites on the lake (occupied) and the rest of the sites were overgrown. Sites at Canoe Lake were pretty open, but there’s a few trees to make it feel dispersed. Canoe Lake was still secluded and had a beautiful lake view - if you don’t mind the drive or backwoods camping, this is perfect since many of the Pictured Rocks campgrounds now require reservations! I will say, this site had the most mosquitos we’ve encountered at any campground in the UP….be more prepared than us! Attached are some pictures from Miners Castle/Pictured Rocks also.

Awesome campground off the dirt road

18 first come, first serve sites with almost all having beach access (Attached picture of registration sign has map). We loved this as a stop for Pictured Rocks/Tahquamenon Falls, but we had no idea it was off a dirt road. It’s a few miles on the dirt road to get to, and the vault toilets weren’t the best but the beach was beautiful and there were plenty of people enjoying the campground. Check in I believe was 3pm, but again it’s self registration. One final note is that there were 2 sites that were open to the one next to it, so it is capable of small group camping, but if you want dispersed sites, this campground isn’t it. We also stayed here because all of the Pictured Rocks/Tahquamenon campgrounds were opening the week after we stayed, so this was an awesome low cost open campground that doesn’t require reservation.

Great Accessible Campsite in the UP

Stayed when the campground first opened back up for the 2020 season - many of the sites (not all, mostly the beach access sites) were reserved but we only needed to stay one night and were able to snag one with beach access. There’s 24 sites available, best to reserve but you can still go as first come first serve. Check in was at 2pm and hosts came by on golf cart to make sure we registered, but otherwise we had an awesome and quiet stay. Beach is AMAZING! And right down the road from another day access beach. Restrooms were one of the nicest we’ve seen in the UP + sites were large and well distanced from others, which is why I gave 5 stars. This was a great option too, since many of the National forest campgrounds nearby require reservations, but this still had first come first serve. I’d DEFINITELY stay again!
