Variety of camp spots available. No dump station.
Comfortable base camp for exploring the area. Sign at entrance had Camp Full up all the 4 nights I was there and none of the nights were actually full. I was able to go online and book additional nights since there doesn't seem to be a way to claim an empty spot. Note however that on the other side of the hiway on the day use side, right adjacent to the pay box was a sign allowing overnight RVs in 6 designated spaces. See the photo of the sign I posted here.
Comfortable but not much privacy. Decent base camp for exploring the area.
Happy to have a place on Hwy 1 to spend the night but $35 seems like a lot for that. Immediately off hiway with no privacy. Just a picnic table and a space in the parking lot. Beautiful view but no beach access due to steep bluff.
Changed a lot since a decade ago. Camp spots are away from trailhead and mostly just parking along the edge of the loop drive.
If you are like me and frequently travel from Oregon's I5 to California's US 395 (eastern Sierra's) in winter, you know the only reliable place to "cross over" is the Hwy 89/44 route (via Susanville, locals say). But if you are north of Reno in late day and don't want to head over the pass at night when the temperatures drop, it's nice to have a place to wait until morning. This largish pull out, a block or so off the highway is perfect. If you sleep in, don't be surprised though when the FedEx trucks do their rendezvous here.
Can park overnight at trailhead when planning a day hike. Don't miss the cracked eggs!
Not a pleasant place in any respect. Dirty, muddy disorganized. But free and convenient when visiting Saguaro National park when that campground is full.
This really is just a legal place to overnight when visiting the wildlife refuge. Perfect for that.
