Pros: This campsite is small (a handful of spots) mostly quiet near a river. There is a nearby public dock for fishing. Close (driving <15 minutes) to dunes, hiking, ocean and town. So much to do along the nearby coast! Saw: sea lions, bald eagles, whales just off shore and the kids loved the great tide pool areas a little north of Florence!
Cons: The camp is very near the highway, though not a busy one--you can hear cars. Several of the spots were open and roomy, ours was not (#7) and had little space for anything other than the tent. Pit toilets means no handwashing-- though the TP was well stocked for most of our three days. There are several spigots for running water that have signs posted for "no dishwashing" which was puzzling.
Overall, small camp without bells and whistles (unlike the ginormous Honeyman State Park across the highway) but feels private/uncrowded. Not much to do in camp (if that's important to you or if you have small kids) but so close to lots of nearby attractions.
That's about it! Thanks Tyee Campground, we enjoyed our stay!
Great stop midway between Boise and Salt Lake. Campgrounds were really comfortable (and green). The springs/pool was surprisingly refreshing even tho 94 degrees on a hot day in July. Fun place, little historical landmark describing the Givens' trek westward on a covered wagon. If you are fussy about clean bathrooms, however, this may not he the place for you.
Fyi the pool/campground does not open until noon- can call ahead on their site for reservation. Pool open until 9- extra charge to swim if more than two campers. Well worth it :)
This campsite was a life saver on a cross country trip. All sites in the Denver/Rocky Mountain area were apparently booked months in advance and we were striking out everywhere. The online booking process for Chief Hosa was difficult/mobile-unfriendly which must have worked in our favor, ha! Sites are clean, pretty close together. Bathrooms clean with coin operated showers. The area is magnificent- saw bison on our hike, close to Dinosaur Ridge and other attractions. Friendly staff and quiet campers :)
Beautiful, spotless sites. Quiet and peaceful, surrounded by trees. Bear country- they are very strict about keeping food inaccessible- park rangers will fine up to 1,000 dollars. Enjoyed the local hikes, very close to Appalachian trail.
A beautiful lake oasis! The sunset was just what we needed after a long day of travel. The tent sites are pretty rustic- one pit toilet for the whole loop. We loved the lake but unfortunately the camp was pretty rowdy, a set of headlights shone into our tent until 1 am. We had small kids with us who couldn't sleep…unsure if that is how it is or just a but if bad luck. It was the weekend.
Beautiful grounds, great hikes nearby of various lengths. The Rock House Cave hike was worth seeing- has been visited by humans for thousands of years! Cute coffee shop and gift shop nearby.
