stayed here in May during the “off-season” so everything was first come, first serve. Two loops were open, the bigger loop had amazing spots with views of the mountain range. Vault Bathrooms were clean, some spots share bear boxes. Definitely coming back!
We tried this campground last year when it was FCFS and struck out but was able to book a few days this year. Sites are a good mix of sun and shade. Some more than others and only a few spots were quite small. Any site will be great. Camp host was great, informed us when a mama bear and her two Cubs were walking thru camp. We had a doe and buck getting comfortable next to our site but were completely harmless. There are water spickets every 5-8 spots and there’s only one bathroom building. We love it here, so will you!
Found this spot last minute and decided to try it out. What a great find! We stayed at the campground and it had all the basic amenities. There are waterfalls and a undeveloped hot spring close by but it was too early in the season and the water was too high to cross the river. Tons of spots available midweek but also SO MANY dispersed spots along the dirt road that looked roomy and private. Would definitely stay here again!
Stayed here on July 4th weekend. Campground is small and there was plenty of day traffic to the Trail of 100 giants across the road. No running water and has pit toilets but camp hosts kept them VERY clean and they were very helpful and managed the crowds well. Definitely have to drive around to hunt for some water to hangout in/by. I usually stay on the eastern Sierra side but thought I’d give the western Sierra a go. Not sure I’d stay again but it’s a good spot if your passing by and need a place to stay on way to your destination.
I stayed here with some family 2 weeks ago. Even though it’s off the main road you feel tucked away with the tree coverage and large sites. We stayed near the entrance but it didn’t feel very busy. There are some sites in the back with big boulders that re pretty cool. Some sites were reserved, others FCFS. camp hosts were friendly and helpful. I’d stay here again!
There are Pit toilets and no water. If you go down the road about a mile, there’s a frontage road that you can take to a drinkable spring water hut where you can fill up for free. They do have a post for donations. There is an art/community center on the left before you turn off to the business/frontage road. The ladies were very helpful with local spot recommendations. We bought a few things to help out. They also have free WiFi.
I stayed here with my friend for 2 days. I don’t have any check in info since it she handled that but the site was big, there was potable water and the bathrooms were clean. It’s a quick walk to the west thumb of Yellowstone lake with views of the east entrance mountain range. It was a great location for us to meet up since I was in Tetons for a few days. Easy to go to and from the west and East side of the park. I have Verizon and randomly had 2 bars of service. No WiFi in the area. The general store had a ton of merchandise to select from. My friend really liked the area and said she stay here again.
My sister and I stayed here after we couldn’t get a site at Jenny Lake. They have a ton of tent sites so the odds of nabbing a one is high. We got in line on a Friday morning around 7:15 and we were lucky enough to grab one of the last 20 sites available. Check in line was slow (we were in line for 3 hrs) but site was good! There is potable water, bathrooms are clean, and trash/recycling are readily available.
It’s a quick 5 min walk to the lake to stargaze or play in the water. Same amount of time to walk to the general store/visitor center. I have Verizon and didn’t have much service anywhere. General store has free WiFi and you’ll see a bunch of people in front or under the trees at the picnic tables on their phones. Free drinking water is available by spigot at the general store and the gas station on the main road.
I would recommend and stay here again. We didn’t spend much time at the campsite so it did the trick for a few days.
What can I say- I LOVE convict lake. I’ve been coming here for 20+ years with my family for reunions. We always camp but have stayed in the cabins years ago. Used to go over Labor Day weekend but changed to June but the weather is always wonderfully warm during the day and brisk-chilly at night. There are some sites that have a great locations to the bridge that connects to the road for easy access to the general store. Some shady sites and others are exposed to the direct sun. Great fishing in the creek- it is stocked. You can find some quiet spots around the lake to relax, read, and soak up the sun if you aren’t into fishing. Bathrooms and sites are very well kept. I always stop here for a quick view even when driving home from mammoth. Worth it every time.
Stayed here before our hike to Whitney. Great spot to get acclimated. Next time, I would try to stay here at least 2 days before the hike. I booked the site a week before but in the midst of the season, I’d probably book weeks, if not months in advance for prime availability. Was here the last weekend of September and it was COLD. Great site, friendly camp host, vault toilets, not service for t-mobile but Verizon has some signal. There’s a store for last minute items you might have forgotten. My brother and I hiked the next morning and summited Mt. Whitney. Would definitely stay here again!
Stayed here a few days before hiking Whitney. Great place to acclimate, second to Whitney portal campground. We camped at one of the walk-in sites. Enough space for the 4 of us, 2 tents, and the family pup. The parking spots are only 50 yds away and next to the restrooms. The campground sits in a ravine like space so if the winds pick up it can whip through pretty good. Good trail that connects to Whitney portal on the ridge above, good for the dogs to run on as well. No cell service besides the top of the ridge if you need to call/text. I’ve been coming to the Sierra’s all my life but never stayed here. I’d come back for the views alone.
Was here the weekend after Labor Day and it was practically empty. Intended on staying at Rock Creek but since they were full, I swung in here and was pleasantly surprised. Snagged a spot with a great view of the mountains and had the surrounding area and bathroom all to myself. Sites are nice, bathrooms well kept, and it’s an easy location to get to all trailheads.
