we only stayed in this spot for 2 nights, but was a nice area. people spread out so you had plenty of privacy.
okay. let’s be real. the road is a beast. I would not drive it with any vehicle other than SUV/Truck. DO NOT bring up an RV/Trailer. you’ll regret it. we stayed and car camped. an awesome view of the lights of Reno. can be very windy but if you get between some of the trees it’s not to bad.
this is a very nice, well maintained rest area. 12 hour maximum parking very well lit at night, large grassy areas with dog poo stations for the doggos. my only qualm was the multiple trains that went by through out my stay and the sound of the horn waking me up.
this is a nice rest area directly off I-5 SB. typical rest area bathrooms(clean) and a few vending machines. amble parking. max parking 12 hours
Was looking for a spot to sleep for the night. After checking out the Walmart nearby and many no overnight camping/parking sign’s, I decided best to move on. Just about a mile from Walmart is a rest area. Not very well lit but has pit toilets and a dumpster. Along with several other cars it worked out just fine. 8 hr limit in a 24 hr window.
The coordinates for this location takes you into a road that is within the National Park. There is “No free camping” in the national park.
Across the road you’ll find the South Beach Camping. This is a FCFS open campground provided by NPS. It’s $20/night or $10/night if you have a reciprocal pass.
There’s toilets and a great ocean view and beach access.
If you choose to park down the access road, you could potentially be ticketed.
I did choose to stay 1 night at the campground. Pretty crowded by RV’s but was okay for a single night.
Very well lit rest area, clean bathrooms, vending machines, picnic and pet area. Perfect for a place to crash
This spot was perfect. Lots of spaces so not very private if that’s what you’re looking for. However, the site I found has an awesome fire ring. It was quiet, convenient to Grand Canyon NP. The selling point was waking up and horses were grazing around the campsites! Definitely plan to stay again
In the area visiting and was just needing a spot to crash for the night & car camp with my 2 dogs. We walked around the rest area for a little while, ultimately I didn’t feel very safe staying there, there was trash and dog poop everywhere. Bathrooms were disgusting and with 6 or so trucks running in such a small area, it was loud and of course nothing but exhaust. Went up the road to looking glass, almost 2 miles off the highway but well worth it for dispersed campers. Funny to feel safer in a big open field than at a rest stop.
What this spot has going for it is the amazing views. Stayed for 1 night and the wind was absolutely insane! Be prepared for that! We opted to car camp over pulling out the tent. Plenty of space to be spread out.
This is a great spot. Wide open area for camping so you’re not right on top of anyone. The views were amazing. Pretty windy as others stated, but was nice during the hot days. Nights were a tad chilly. Downside is there’s absolutely no shade and horseflies are in plenty. Thankfully I have a screen tent that provided some shade and relief from the flies. Overall a great spot, not too far from town. Better if you have a camper over a tent.
Stayed here with a group of friends at site #4. Was a great spot and lots of room for our 4 tents/3vehicles. It was over the July 4th week, so very busy and found people would just walk through your campsite. Which of course would make our dogs bark at them. Also a lot of people just walking the road, so privacy can really be hit or miss. A lot of people have their dogs off leash as well. One of the rangers stopped by and sure did have a big chip on his shoulder. Overall would stay again, but would maybe instead stay at site 5 or over at a short hike in spot along Jones Pond rd. Overall a great place, just wish people would have more respect when around others campsites.
