I enjoyed this place. It wasn’t hard to get up the mountain and only 20 mins away from the Ouray. Stayed close to this runoff stream that was suitable for a group walk in campsite. No service and no bathrooms but there is a Rock climbing park on your way in to Ouray that has bathrooms and service. You get what you get with free campsites and this one was easy to get to (on a dry summer day), with a stream, and trees to hammock. This was a five star for me and my crew.
This was a great spot right along the river with bathrooms only about 20 mins/8 miles from the Hwy. This spot has a lot of potential to make it however you want, had we of had more time we would’ve gone further up the river because I think there were better spots along the river about a mile up but we found three trees to hammock from and that’s all you can ask for in the desert. Will definitely come back here but go further up stream and bring fishing poles and kayaks.
I’m a fan of this spot. It’s within 10 miles from Flagstaff. Good road that doesn’t require 4WD. Plenty of spots for tent camping and also big rigs. My buddy and I both have service with different providers. I will say the traffic from the road is a little loud but I believe there is construction on I-40 which is detouring people along the forest road. Although the traffic is loud, the forests allows you to move further away from the road for a more quiet night. I would definitely stay here again if I’m ever in the area.
