Lovely oaks, no river access

Reservations.gov implied campground was full, we took a chance for the night and MANY SPOTS WERE AVAILABLE! But river access has been eroded in this last year so access is down the way at the county park (under the busy roadway, meh). But beautiful oaks, and a fine spot for the night. Friendly staff and campground hosts

One of several along the Deschutes

In terms of the 5 or so campgrounds to choose from along this easy-to-access gravel BLM road, this is in the second tier for —proximity to main road (dusty drive-bys) —distance from Maupin (no Need to drive extra) I choose beavertail campground first, and if no sites there, this is a fine alternative. BRING FUN WATER STUFFS!

  • a Saturday in August and easily found a spot
  • oh this river is gorgeous!
  • windy evening! It’s a dust up !
  • close to road…more dust up
  • you can spend your day at any of these camps or day use spots along this river and be a happy camper…but definitely raft or kayak or tube or something
