Axtel is a nice COE campground on Rough River Lake. Very family friendly and clean.
The sites are a little tighter than a typical COE facility but there appeared to be many folks buddy camping so it was well suited for that. Most site have power and water and it looked to be updated not too long ago.
We had site E70 which was directly on the lake. This was nice for lauching our kayaks or throwing a fly in for some nearby fishing. Lakeside was a little muddy and roots but that did not stop any of the fun. The lake does go up and down a bit so some sites may close due to high wat water.
Had a wonderful weekend at Kendall. Have heard it can be hard to get a reservation, and now I know why.
Most the spots are spacious and tree covered. Paved and gravel sights are the norm. Some sites looked to be 100 feet deep which offered great privacy. There are many buddy sites that would great for a group trip.
Lots of kids in the parks with nice playgrounds, open spaces to run and the Wolf Creek Hatchery to check out.
If you fish, the Cumberland River is right there plus Hatchery Creek. The lake also offers lakes fishing for those inclined.
A great time was had and we shall return!
Very nice state park with some nice trails. The Lake View trail was a good and tough hike. If you take young ones, be sure they will be self reliant. It can be very steep in some areas.
The campground is fairly large with nice size sites. Some can be short and a bit uneven, so be prepared.
The facilities were nice but needed a good cleaning. Along with the comfort stations, there are pit toilets located throughout for easy access.
The lake looked very nice and is electric motor only. It will be nice to head back with the kayaks. You may be need a permit for all boats, so check before you go.
Looking forward to another visir.
