Beautiful sites in the Gore Range

Newly designated sites for dispersed camping gives some structure. Camp rings are the only amenity. No complaints about the sites, but my neighbors played electronica until 1 am so I'm having a hard time being too positive. The road to the sites has a few tricky spots but is 2wd accessible.

Beautiful but lots of OHVs

Setting is tremendous - mountains all around, open meadows for camping, a creek so clear you can see everything. Lots of OHVs on the road that goes through the dispersed camping. It's not possible to get far enough off the road to stop the dust or noise.

Just a parking lot with hookups

In the middle of Kansas, this is just a parking lot at the town's rec center. It says you can use the bathrooms and showers in the rec center but it was closed when I was there (despite it being within the hours it's advertised to be open.) $15/night. It's fine for a night stay.

Very steep and off camber site

It was hard to find the correct area (but I did arrive at dusk so that made it harder.) My site, only one of a few remaining when I booked weeks ago, is down a steep drive that ends on a cambered slope. The paved area of the driveway has a substantial 4-5" dropoff on one side so be careful of your tires. You'd certainly be worse off with a bigger camper than my van, but it really is unacceptable. There aren't good places for a tent (but I don't need one.) Verizon seems fine. No wifi. Most campsites are only feet from the camp road and very close together. The area is well shaded. There is 30A electric, but there is no way I'd plug into it. It looks to have been installed decades ago and not touched since then. (Some of the electric boxes look updated.) Ditto on the bathhouses…not clean, not modern. Yikes!

Cabin camping

Employees are incredibly nice. Store is well stocked. Cabins are just beds and a couple outlets. Picnic table and charcoal grill outside. AC is the big draw since summer can be brutal. Access to the sound side of the island. Ramp for driving onto the beach or the pedestrian accessed beach requires driving. Campground is quite large and packed. Noise was better than expected. Wifi is a complete fail even though they advertise it. Verizon coverage was adequate. Only 2 bathhouses (1 is being renovated) for the entire campground. Lines were not bad but it was hard for it to stay clean with all that use. The laundry room was nice and worked well. There is a pool, but I didn't use it. I prefer the Hatteras area to the more crowded Nags Head/Kitty Hawk scene but don't think I'd return to this location next time. There are many NPS campsites in the area. (The campground felt unsafe given the large numbers of RV campers who flew multiple Trump/confederate flags, but I did not experience anything unsafe.)

Large sites

The area is clearly designed for RVs, not tents, which was fine since I had my campervan. I did notice, however, some the the sites had seriously sloping drives so lots of leveling would have been required. The area is heavily wooded.y site had no view of the lake but some do. Most that have beach access also have electric. There are 10-12 of those sites. The remainder are primitive. The only water is near the dump station. To access the lake if you don't have a lake site requires driving to a separate area. The bathhouse is fine. Most sites seem to be large enough for a couple of tents and vehicles. Verizon service was adequate. No wifi.

Guns shots in the surrounding area in the overnight periods. I don't think they were originating from inside the campground. Also, campground is near the Nashville airport so air traffic can be heard. Generators are allowed in the campground.

In the middle of things

Conveniently located to the fairgrounds and stadium, as well as some museums. 15 minutes from the airport. Wifi slow but Verizon was good. Water and power provided. Extra for black tank dump. Security was super polite. Giant thunderstorm rolled through so had entertainment with my camping. Be advised - there are quite regular trains passing nearby.

Nice place to stop over

Grassy area behind some ball fields in a small town. They have hookups but I just parked in the grass. I also understand there are bathrooms and showers but I didn't use them. Wifi works. There is a small creek that runs through but I didn't check it out. Some residents appear to live there full-time. Shaded. There are trains passing very close to the campground.

Good view. That's all

Showers and toilets were under construction so a car ride was required to reach the next closest. Tent sites were overgrown with grass and ticks were abundant. Signage was not good. Good luck finding your site if you arrive after dark. Lots of traffic once it got dark with people circling to look for their sites. Boat traffic in the lake plays loud music late into the evening. Voices carry throughout the campground. Be aware that the park address might be far from your camp site….check your area before plotting your course.

No frills but awesome

Nestled into the town park between the ball fields and the water slide, the no frills spots fit the bill for a quick overnight. Bathroom indoors at the water slide. Electricity and water available. Dump station and trash cans available. The town has free wifi, but I couldn't connect from my parking spot.

Good location

Near miles of mountain bike trails. Clean, well-stocked pit toilets. No water or shade. Sites are decently separated but with few bushes and trees, it's easy to see and hear other people. Poor cell service at my site but better elsewhere in the campground.

Beautiful, shady, and quiet

Only a few sites but clean pit toilets, water, and trash. Each site has a fire ring and new picnic table. Listened to Aspen leaves rustling all night. Lots of trails nearby for hiking and mountain biking.

Hidden, peaceful, clean

Access road is well maintained gravel. Campground was uncrowded on a July Saturday night. Lots of water and pit toilets. Access to the river but it's fast moving so I'd worry about kids and pets. Mosquitos showed up en masse at dusk. Lots of shade. Definitely worth $5.

Beautiful view, smells like cows

Incredible river views. Secluded in Muskrat Bend section. Lots of birds. Pit toilet clean and well stocked, even at the end of the holiday weekend. Easy access from the interstate. Smelled like cow pasture.

Basic camp site with great lake views

Quiet, uncrowded. Situated on the edge of a cliff above Lake Meredith. Picnic tables and a pit toilet are available.
