12 miles uphill drive into the Santa Fe National Forest, just past million dollar mansions in Santa Fe. Easy access, just drive up and park. Multiple tent camp sites with fire pit and picnic table. Accessible to trails. Beautiful sunset views.
Nice and clean campground, about a 10-15 minute walk on a well maintained trail or 2 minute drive to the visitor center. Visitor center has 24 hour restrooms. Pottable water was not on when we went. Was pretty chilly when we were here in early March.
Campsite had spectacular views with picnic table and fire pit. Beautiful night skies. Dog friendly around the campgrounds. Note dogs are not allowed on the designated trails.
Amazing views of the 3 large natural bridges. We were able to hike to all three of them in one morning as the sun rose. Not crowded at all.
While visiting in March 2020, we could not find any open campgrounds in Moab or Arches. We ended up driving 10 minutes north of Arches NP and came upon willow springs. Was very crowded but still plenty of space. Easy road to drive on. Spectacular views and night skies. No amenities.
Quick drive back to Arches NP for some amazing early morning hikes! Also near Lions Park, which has bathrooms, water, walking trails overlooking the colorado river, and grass for the pups to play.
We were hoping to camp in the Fruita Campground but was full, so the park rangers recommended dispersed camping, Just outside of the park gates, about 10 minutes from the visitor center. Plenty of campground spaces with fire rings. No amenities. Awesome dark sky views and wonderful hiking at capitol reef.
