At this campground there are drive in sites as well as sites only available via the hiking trail. I camped at one of the sites along the trail and I cannot downplay how beautiful it was. The trails have some muddy spots, and areas with downed trees but nothing a little creativity to get around them won’t fix. Plenty of spots around the many lakes to cast in a line to go fishing (but do note they are designated trout lakes, so you can only fish during trout season and with a trout stamp in addition to your fishing license). There is also a little fishing pier at the entrance next to the drive in spots. The camp spots I looked at around the hiking loop mostly have fire rings and two even have picnic tables! The loop lets you see all of the lakes, and goes through the gorgeous northern Minnesota forest. With birch all around to get some shedded bark for fires at night.
