We stayed in the spur of the campground, the views to the front of us were amazing! Then right behind us there was an incredible never ending hill covered in ferns and tall trees, and grey fox dens because we had a gorgeous one visit our camp! We had a ton of shade and enough sun to warm up, it was cooler this time of year then we expected. Bring layers! You can walk to a trail to check out a waterfall from there (pretty darn steep!) and you can walk to the Robert Ferguson Observatory as well! We went on a night hike for a star gazing tour and had a great time! Every site had their own cleaned porta potty which was very nice. Make a donation to help keep it going! The visitor center has snacks and ice cream bars, firewood, simple essentials, etc. It is an amazing campground with gorgeous sites and hikes. They have everything you need for a great weekend!
We love this campground! There are 9 different sections to stay in. The farther back you stay the better in my opinion unless you like a bit more going on. The trails are perfectly maintained and you can go around the whole lake in 9miles. The hike to the waterfall is wonderful and depending where you start depends on length. You have to see it though! 33ft and the perfect spot to swim when it warms up. I can’t wait to be back. Their campground is a great spot for a family trip. Beautiful scenery, good folks, and a great time.
Manzanita day use is the parking area between two campgrounds right on sugar pine reservoir. It isn’t a huge lot and can fill up quick because it is a super awesome place to spend the day! The water is AMAZING and can be a bit cold that high up but usually always swimmable in the summer. Lots of beautiful spots to picnic, there are bbqs and tables, a pit bathroom too. The best part though is that the trail that starts in the day use will go all the way around the reservoir! It is 5 miles total and goes across the dam, it’s an awesome hike to check out! Go early and be prepared to love it!
The campsites are all very nice but 23 and 24 can’t be beat with the best access to the water ( you will have a lot of people walking by to get there also though). They have potable drinking water, pit bathrooms, no shower. We went in the end of June and the water was awesome for swimming. Not too cold like a lot of the mountain reservoirs. There is a trail that goes around the entire reservoir, it is a 5 mile loop. The camp hosts were so welcoming and helpful. They have firewood for sale $1 a piece. Most sites stayed shady through out the day. A truly beautiful place to spend a relaxing weekend. Except when you have the loudest neighbors EVER. You guys know who you are! Don’t be those people!
I have stayed here many times when we just need to camp and don’t have time to get away. It is super close in town, easy walk to the water from the campground, lots of paved trails for biking and walks. It is also a major draw for people who are just camping to be loud and drink heavily. To each their own for sure, but don’t count on it being the quietest place you’ll ever stay. Bathrooms and showers, potable water. Gets HOT so come prepared.
We stayed 4 days at this park and had the best time!! The kids loved the stocked fishing ponds, and even better was the immaculate 2 swimming pools and playground! Everyone was busy having fun the whole time and the grounds were perfectly kept, all the facilities are very clean, and when it’s 90 out you can’t beat the ice cream in the cafe! Definitely makes you feel like you’re on a vacation here. All the spots have power and water.
