The non-electric portion of the campground is about a mile from the lakefront, in a setting of prairie grass and wildflowers. I was amazed to see so many flowers in August! There is shrubs and small trees between the campsites, so they feel private. There are very few trees, so be prepared to provide your own shade. There is a large shower house between the two loops of the campground and vault toilets in the campground. They were reasonably clean. The area around the lakefront is wooded and there are several nice walks, including around a quarry lake. The water is very high and the shore is eroded, so although it is beautiful to look at, it is hard to find beach areas.
Several loops. Tent loops are pretty much open fields. We stayed in a loop with electrical hook up. Sites are level and there are trees through out the campground. Sites on the interior of the loop can be close to the one behind it so check your site carefully before you choose it. Bathrooms are older but clean. Shower does not allow for adjustment of water temperature. Hiking trails are not well marked except for the mountain biking trails, which were well marked.
New campground. We stayed in site 1, which was a pull through with full hook ups. Each site has a designated tent pad as well as a lantern hook. Sites on the outside of the loop back up to the woods, sites on the inside of the loop are more exposed to other campsites. Staff was very friendly, bathroom and shower accommodations were clean and well maintained.
