A scenic drive and a great campground.

I make sure to visit this campground every year. The drive out is amazing, and there are plenty of hot springs along the way. There is dispersed camping, and the campground itself feels more primitive than others just because of how far out of the way you are.

A hot spring right on the river

Located right on the payette river this hot spring is a sight to see. The spots are far enough away from each other for a little privacy, however, people will be walking through the campground to get to the hot springs. Try and visit on a weekday night for better chances of privacy. The steam from the spring keeps the ground warm on the cooler nights.

Sometimes muddy but worth it!

This is another hot spring campground. The hot spring is a short hike out, and camp sites are scattered along the way. You decide how close you want to be to your car or the hot spring. The hike out can get very muddy depending on when you go, so be cautious!

Mystical place

This place is truly a magical place. There are rivers and caves to explore, and the views are just insane. Camp here for a real north Idaho camping experience.

Beautiful

Council is one of my favorite areas in Idaho. This campground is well kept, wooded, and easy. There are some dispersed camping areas near by as well!

A hot spring experience!

The best hot spring locates a short distance from the campground. This is one of my favorite places to camp. The trees around gave us plenty of shade on a hot day!

Weekday Gem

Cant get any better views of the water! Hung my hammock up right next to the reservoir. At night we could hear coyotes! We even had 3 baby foxes visit our camp one evening. I could see it getting crowded on weekends, but I had this all to myself on a Monday and Tuesday. Clean bathrooms too!

Camping on the lake

It's a perfect summer spot. One of my favorite campgrounds. Tons of pretty drives to take around the area. There's a cute little lodge near the campground as well. The campground itself has parking in an outer gate and then you must walk all your belongings in through the gate and to your spot. There's only a few spots. The walk isn't too bad and it's well worth the views. There's plenty of trees to tie a hammock to as well. Nothing beats the view of this campground.

Lake, Trailheads, a good time.

Absolutely loved camping here. It's a great place to set up camp if you're doing the hike to Alice lake (one of the best hikes). The campground is conveniently located right next to the trailhead. Even if you're not doing the hike it's a great campground with an epic view of the sawtooth mountains with a lake near by.

Classic Idaho

Honestly one of the best places close to the city. Far enough away that you still get out of service, a good view of the stars, a swim, and some magnificent overall views. Nothing like waking up here. 40 minutes from downtown Boise

Serenity

Pretty amazing location. Up high in the mountains. Tons to do around- there's even a nice little hot spring off the side of the road not too far away from the campground. Campground itself was clean- had nice amenities such as toilets, grills, and benches. Sleeping was easy with the flowing creek that goes through the campground.

Weekday gem?

Could be better- but hard to beat location. Local hot spring nearby. Salmon river flowing alongside. The only issues are that the sites themselves are close together- and you are awfully close to the main road. However I was there on a very busy weekend. I have a feeling that if you got this campground on a weekday the experience would be better and privacy would be much more available :$

Pure Serenity

One of my favorite campgrounds in all of Idaho. The road out to Deadwood is only open a few months of the year. While the road out can be a little rough, the campground is well worth it. The drive out is beautiful as well. Feels like you are in a different land. Four wheel drive is recommended. The campground itself is serene, with so much to do! The water from the reservoir is great for swimming, fishing and boating. There are trailheads that start right from within the campground. If you're lucky you might even hear a pack of wolves howling across the reservoir!
