There are some great hikes on the loop trails that run along the Cape Fear River. Raven Rock itself is pretty cool and worth the hike.
When I first drove into this campground I was a little skeptical to say the least. There are lots of RVs in very tight spaces towards the front of the campground, but as you go around to the back - near the lake - it gets really nice. We stayed with a group of 5 families over Memorial Day weekend and it was great. Did a little fishing and went on day trips to Chimney Rock and tubing on the river through downtown Asheville.
This is a beautiful campground with good facilities. There is a good trail around the lake that offers some beautiful views across the lake. Pretty good fishing too.
This is a great spot to go with a large group - I was with the Boy Scouts. It is fairly secluded, so once we got to the campground there weren't a lot of other people around. If the weather had been better, it would have been unbeatable - it rained from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon.
This is a great campground on a beautiful lake. Well off the beaten path, it takes a little time to get there but it's worth the trip.
I grew up near this campground and spent many weekends during my childhood camping here.
This is a great little campground right inside Raleigh. I've camped there several times with the kids and it's great because it's so close and there are a few good hikes in Umstead Park.
