Nice But Not Remote

For the park itself to be in such a beautiful and remote location, it's a shame they built a casino in it. Our campsite was clean and partially wooded, but we were very close to a parking lot. We had electric hookups but no water or sewer. There are some beautiful hiking trails in the gorge, and the lake is small but good for kayaking. The campground restroom was very clean.

Between Potomac and Paw Paw Tunnel

Nice view of the Potomac and mountains. Close to the Paw Paw Tunnel towpath. The Portapotties were in bad shape, but it was winter so hopefully they get serviced more often in season. Bring a rake- I've never seen so many black walnuts on the ground!

Beautiful and Serene

Sites are level and well spaced. Some are more wooded than others. If you need sun for solar panels, sites 4 and 5 are better for that. Portapotties are clean. All sites have a picnic table, fire ring and a grill. Most sights are right on the Potomac. Beautiful views, even in winter. Be careful going through the tunnel! We barely made it 😊

Planes, Trains, Dump Trucks...

The campground itself is beautifully wooded with mature pine trees. However, the sites are packed so tight you can barely maneuver in and out. We only have a 17' travel trailer pulled by a Ford Explorer and had great difficulty backing it in. I did not see any pull-through sites. Our site had a picnic table, fire ring and water & electric hookups. When we arrived we were given a rules list (as customary) that strongly threatened to remove anyone who was too loud, including dogs. I was a little worried because our Border Collie sometimes barks when people walk their dogs past our campsite. Anyway… after we went to bed we were awakened by a cacophony of road noises, including trains, trucks, and tractor trailers. Planes sounded like they were flying right above our heads. Trucks sounded like they were dumping rocks only feet from our site. In between those noises, we could hear a group of people partying outside on the deck of a house very close to the campground. This went on well into the night. Even though my husband has poor hearing, he couldn't sleep through all that. And yes, the irony of the campground's stern noise warning wasn't lost on me. We were there 3 sleepless nights. I would suggest bringing quality earplugs if you go there. Oh- and they do not allow you to choose your site. You get what's assigned to you.

Great Kayaking and Beautiful Woods

We camped with our 17' travel trailer at site 19E with electric hookups. Some sites have water and sewer as well, which is rare in a MD state park. We had a picnic table, lantern pole and fire ring in a spacious, wooded site. Good dry wood was available for $5 a bundle. The restrooms were spotless. Hiking trails everywhere- and all level for easy biking. There's a small lake where many people were fishing for bass, and a calm waterway (Tuckahoe River) excellent for kayaking. We had our own yaks, but the park will rent them. A few miles down the road is a boat launch (Hillsboro) with access to another section of the Tuckahoe River, also great for kayaking. We saw beautiful aquatic plants, many birds, and a gazillion turtles. We paddled past several beaver dams, but they successfully stayed hidden. We love this park and campground!

Beautifully wooded

We stayed in B loop site 43 with electric hookups only. The site was wooded, clean and spacious with a picnic table and fire ring. We paddled in the big beautiful lake which had several different areas to launch. We saw squirrels, chipmunks, great blue heron, osprey, a bald eagle and ducks. We didn't fish, but saw several fishermen. We'll definitely be back.

Beautiful River View

We stayed at a Susquehanna river view site with full hookups for 2 nights. Site was level and shaded, but very close to neighbors. Most sites were occupied by permanent or seasonal residents. Bathrooms and grounds were very clean. Rates are reasonable for what you get, and they offer discounts. We would stay here again. Update: Storms with heavy rain in the area made the river rise. We were told the campground is susceptible to flooding, so check the weather when you come!

Trashy and Run Down

We stayed in a Potomac river view site with water and electric hookups for our 17' Jayco hybrid. The river view was nice, but we were packed in with our neighbors like sardines and no shade. The road into the campground was badly in need of repair. Site was not level and infested with black flies. Restrooms were beyond disgusting, dumpsters overflowing and dump station was muddy. To add insult to injury, they charged $60 per weeknight and sold us wet wood for $8. This could be a beautiful place with some upgrades and maintenance.
