Faithful Standby

When fishing, hiking, exploring the Southern Sierra area I always find this a reliable spot . . . EXCEPT DURING HIGH USE TIMES.  During those times it is overrun with people, noise and litter.  During the off season it's less crowded and generally quite nice.   It's close to a little restaurant and market and a few spots offer some cover and seclusion.  All in all, it is recommended for active families and, during the off season, for folks like me who want a central point from which to venture out.

Sure there are better days

Went there on the hottest day of the year.  Every other campground was full but this one was sparsley populated when I arrived.  I looked forwarded to a peaceful evening under the stars in a pretty place.  At 9 PM still many open campsites but a few large noisey groups set up camp and proceeded to talk and play their radio until midnight.  It appears they decided 12 AM was the cutoff.  Most agregious was a youth (14 -17 years old) group of about 12 boys.  They roamed the campground all night just screwing around and making noise.  The adult supervisors did nothing to control the boys.  I could have used another 2,500 feet elevation to escape the heat and the other "campers".  I left first thing in the morning.

Surf Heaven

You are there to surf. From Swamis to the north and Cardiff Reef at the south end this is my favorite surf campground in Cali. Not a quiet serene spot, it is packed and near the busy highway and a train track. Non surfing families love it for the beach access but I would recommend other beach campgrounds for simple beach activities. My only complaint; some campers are messy and do not observe noise regulations. I would like to see better enforcement.

Family Fun Yet Peaceful

Nice weather. Very low occupancy. Serene and peaceful with activities for all ages. Hiking, fishing, exploring, wildlife.

Simple Get Away

Forested small campground perfect for relaxing, fishing and hiking.  After a few hours of fishing in nearby North Lake or hiking in the area you return to an uncrowded, quiet, pretty campground for the night.  Wouldn't recommend a long term stay here but a few nights is great.

Out There

After a long drive on a forest service road we reached the campground.  It's out there.  We went in late summer after a particularly bad drought year but fires were allowed.  The camp ground host was super vigilant and checked regularly to see we had a shovel and a bucket of water on standby.  He ran a tight ship.   (Kudos to him.)  Little water in the stream and hot and dusty.  Figure in a normal year this place is brilliant.
