I can imagine that if you have an RV this campground would be an absolute gem. Nice sites, some tucked away into the hillside a bit to offer a little privacy. Others are far more open, but still with trees around. Very clean restroom. Lovely host. Gorgeous views from the bluff overlooking the bay. They have a grassy open area and a well equipped pavilion for group gatherings.
I loved my time at Upper Clearwater. Large sites with varied amenities. I was happy to have my riverside site even if it meant a ring of rocks instead of a real fire ring like at other sites. Or the fact that the seat on one side of the picnic table had been removed. One site even has a permanent shelter that would be great for groups (see pictures). If you love camping in the woods and hearing rivers instead of radios, this is the place for you. P.S. seriously, cleanest and least smelly pit toilet I have experienced in my life. It was oddly impressive.
Phenomenal park with lots to do. I was able to snag one of the amazing sites on the lake. It sits down from the road and an embankment so there is a level of privacy from the road, but not your neighboring sites. Nor does it shelter you from the road noise that continues throughout the night. The road that goes through the park is actually a main arterial on the island. It's not super loud, but it pulls away from the magic of the place and is often enough to be distracting. I bet you wouldn't even notice during the summer when the campground is full though. That was my only complaint about this otherwise perfect place. If road noise doesn't bother you, grab a lakeside site. Otherwise, try a site set a little further back. Sweet firewood vending machine. Wood was wet, but fun for the novelty. Great hiking trails all over. Nice day areas and lake activities, including boat rentals.
Friendly staff, well kept grounds, solid amenities. Many long term guests, a few of which were a bit noisy. I stayed here in a pinch in one of the tent sites. It's a grass patch in the middle of an RV park. I didn't expect more. I might stay again in a pinch, but I'd probably just get a cheap motel room.
