I am mixed on how to review Gulf Coast. First, the people are great- nice and friendly. The location is great except having to get out on Hwy 41. Close-ish to the beach. You can't ride your bike there in the heat. The lots were nice and large. We did the monthly and that was kind of a mistake because we had to pay the electric and probably would have been cheaper to do daily. OK so we had a couple of concerns- maybe three. The neighborhood is an industrial/commercial area. So the closest anything is 3/4 miles. It just didn't feel safe to walk. There was no recycle center and the dump area is used by everyone in the neighborhood. Since it is not gated, people from the neighborhood use the facilities including the pool. Should that bother me? I think so. It just did not make it feel clean. The roads have a lot of pot holes and I think they are supposed to be paving the roads this year. Its an older park with a mix of mobile homes and RVs. We camped at Gulf Coast Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
We were almost turned off by the bad reviews and then when we pulled into our site, the mobile home next door was vacant and gave a little creepy feeling to it. The site was on Raccoon Ln and our RV fit right into the spot. All of that changed after spending our first night and staying a month. First of all the location, if you like to kayak, this is the place for you. Right on the river. Very nice. It is close to Venice beach(less than 10 miles) and the town of Venice which is a awesome little town. The people- including staff are awesome. Some of the nicest people. The vibe is very laid back. The pool is amazing. There are lots to do here in this community and they have events and social gatherings. It is close to Spring training camp for the Braves. So I can see why some people have negatives- if you have big million dollar class A, you might not like being among the permanent mobile homes. We came when it was dry, there could be a problem if there was a lot of rain due to the RV sitting on grass. The biggest problem we saw was the traffic on Rt 777 can be pretty crazy at certain times of the day. But for us, overall this has been great. We camped at Ramblers Rest RV Campground in a Motorhome
This is our favorite campground. Bring bikes and kayak- you won't be disappointed. We stayed here for 2 months and have been here before and this is one of our favorite places to come. The sites are gravel and level. Most sites are easy to get in and out of and not too close together. I have never felt cramped here. Each site comes with a fire pit and a picnic table. Location is great. Not right on the beach but a short walking distance.(NOTE: DO NOT WALK YOUR DOG ON THE BEACH- they do not give warnings and the fine is close to$300). North Beach is great- Great grill called North Beach Grill. Lots of history close by. Staff are amazing and so friendly. I would say the friendliest staff of all the parks I have ever been to. Lots of great restaurants. We camped at River's End Campground& RV Park in a Motorhome. I highly recommend North Beach Grille, Cockspur Grille, and Huck-A-Poo - all are walking and biking distance from the campground (Actually everything is biking distance from the campground).
