Beautiful campground along the American River in Coloma CA. The campground contains both on river and off river sites. You can literally backup to the rivers edge in the on river sites. On river is water and electric only. Full hookups off river. This is our 2nd December in a row staying through New Years.
The campgrounds are very well maintained and the bathrooms are super clean
Sites are not too close to each other and have options for every size rig.
Walk across the bridge to tour the Marshal Gold Discovery State Park.
You can also walk the trails along the river. Many places to just pack a lunch and some beers and hang out along the river beach just off the trail.
Most likely due to COVID and it being off season, the campground was barely a 3rd full. We had site 157 about 150 yards from the road. Road noise was not too bad and the ability to see the lake made up for anything we heard. The campground was well maintained. The snow added to the scenery. Our pad was paved, but pretty skinny. Our fold out stairs did not reach the ground due to the small drop off from the pavement. I added a few boards to solve that. Remember you have to park in the campground and then walk across the street to check in.
The beach was amazing. We had 2 small dogs so they went allowed on the Zephyr Cove beach, but a short walk to the right there is a dog friendly beach. I would argue it’s even better part of the beach. Nice rock formations and sandy beach.
Unhook and go see Emerald Bay. Make sure you check out the waterfall and short like to eagle lake. All from the Eagle Falls parking lot. Kiva Beach is also a great place to go if you have have dogs or even if you don’t
Almost every spot seemed to be pretty nice. Pull throughs seemed a little tight, but all back-ins were spacious. Very clean grounds. Clean bathrooms and the dish washing area was nice to get the big junks off your pans :). The beach is right there. You can see and or hear the waves crashing. Beautiful…will go again for sure.
Perfect first trip in our travel trailer. The park was about 1/3 full. Our site backed up to the Eel river with Giants redwoods everywhere. The grounds were super clean and quiet. Just hung out at the beach the whole time, but the Avenue of the giants is right there. Must see if you haven't been.
