The sites along the river have good privacy, river access, and the sound of the river drowns out the sound of the nearby road as well as other campers. The bathrooms could have been cleaner but about as expected for a vault toilet.
We stayed at a walk-in site. The site was only a 4 minute walk from the parking area and it was very private and peaceful. The site was a good size and well separated from the other sides. We could hear the river going by and that's it. The North cascades visitors center is close by with good information about hikes.
Our site was right next to the water and that was nice but we were also right next to a bachelor party and that was not nice. The tent pads from the two sites were very close to each other. We were able to pitch ours farther back in the site and get a little more privacy so that was good. The campground itself is nice but there were slot of noisy campers there.
I've come to expect state campgrounds to be crowded noisy and generally unpleasant but really enjoyed this one. Our site had woods behind it so there was plenty of space to set up a hammock. There was plenty of space between sites and nice privacy.
My husband I drove here after work on a Friday, and I was so disappointed that I cried. There was NO privacy. Most of the sites are in a big open field. There were huge RVs all around, lots of people playing noisy music and the highway was nearby and very loud. We spent the night only because there were no viable alternatives nearby. We left the next day, extremely disappointed. I think there are some sites in a different section of the park that offer more of what we like, but I'm not sure which numbers they are or how to tell where they are on the map.
