My family really enjoyed a day trip to this park, we found the kayaking to be really good there. The trails were pretty & well maintained but the park is super busy. Crowded actually, more than our family is used to. The mill ruins are pretty neat to see. I do think they need a stronger ranger presence as we witnessed some pretty stupid visitor behavior. The museum is neat but could use more interactive features to really engage people. We plan to return, its a nice day try kind of park.
My family of 5 was really impressed with this State park and can't wait to go back! The drive up to the park provides amazing vistas and once you arrive it just keeps getting better. It's an enormous park too, tons to see. The ancient rock wall was awesome and the fire tower is really neat! Look for the hidden "heart shaped" rock! The campsites & facilities were clean and well maintained. The rangers & campground hosts were very friendly and helpful. We camped at a platform site. Just be prepared if you choose one of these that you will be carrying in your stuff. Can't park near them. But it was worth it to have the quiet and seclusion. Loved it!! Been to so many state parks & reserves all over Ga but this one really set a high bar!!
We've been camping here for years with our kids. It's gorgeous during the fall season & the trails connect to the Appalachian trail. It's pet friendly and usually pretty quiet, despite filling up pretty quickly in fall months. Close to several other great parks, such as Vogel state park, unicoi state park, and Brasstown Bald. Also convenient for a day trip to Helen or to several local waterfalls. Recommend heading into Blairsville for breakfast at The Hole in The Wall Restaurant, yummy! Facilities are always clean, but FYI if there too early in spring the bathrooms will be locked up & only option becomes an outhouse.
