Sherwood Forest Campground is a long time family run campground in an excellent location for enjoying all that the Wisconsin Dells has to offer. Our site had 50 amp electric, water and sewer connections. We were situated on the upper ridge of the campground, furthest from the office/camp store and swimming pool. Our showers were very disappointing. The shower stall had a single stackable plastic lawn chair and a curtain. No mirror, no towel bar or hook, no shelf or caddy in the shower for toiletries. To operate the shower, one must push in the valve, hope the water is a suitable temperature, and repeat after about 20 seconds, or keep pushing while performing your ablutions one handed. The swimming pool, while advertised as heated to 80 degrees, was not heated at all. There is a fairly complete camp store, a splash pad for kids, a game room and laundry available. Some seasonal sites are also available.
This campground is owned and operated by the village of Wilton, Wi. It is primarily marketed toward cyclists riding the Elroy Sparta Rail Trail. The trail’s halfway point is about 5 blocks away, so one could easily do the southern half one day and the northern half the next. It is part of a community recreation center that includes a nice swimming pool and various ball fields. Camp sites are for both RVs (towed and motor homes) and tents. Sites have access to 30 amp and conventional electric outlets grouped in a multi outlet board. Depending on your proximity to the board and the length of your cord, this could be problematic. Showers are easily available and will run you 50 cents for 4 minutes of water. The swimming pool is also available for a $5 admission. Hours are irregular due to a shortage of available lifeguards. Individual campsites have a picnic table and fire ring.
This was the first time we ever spent a week at an RV park. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, the location is ideal for spending time at the beach, and the facilities are top notch. As RV newbies, we were treated with Southern hospitality each and every day. The location is across the road from the beach, and the road was easily crossed with our two dogs and a wagon with our beach stuff. One note, the beach has signs posted banning dogs, but we had no issues with our two coonhound mixes. This property is no more than a couple of years old, and the clubhouse , pool, and pads are all clean, neat, and easily accessed. My girlfriend was especially impressed with the showers, comparing them to luxury hotels. The only negative I have is that there are no fire pits or rings. Perhaps this isn’t a regional thing. Overall, I was very impressed and will make a point of returning next year.
