There aren’t that many big open fields on the water in the USA for tent camping. Lots of fun, easy to meet people, and chill atmosphere. I slept in my car in the parking lot and they had no problem with that, BUT the mosquitoes were intense. Even the campfire and wind didn’t stop them.
This cost $85 a night and really old picnic tables, right next to your neighbors, old showers, wasn’t given the wifi password, but smack dab in Key Largo. The RV sites are awesome, but that’s not me, lol. I got a site as a walk-in same night. Also everything is relative, if you’ve been using vault toilets it’s amazing to have a flush toilet, but these are a bit rough for $85.
It’s hard to find places to stay in the winter in Florida and inexpensive ones on top of that. So I’d give this 5 stars just for that alone, but it’s 30 miles of gravel roads, no electric, and no water. Lots of privacy and definitely is a great place to camp if you like getting out of the busy campgrounds. Alligators and snakes no extra charge, lol. There are 40 sites, first come first serve, and I arrived on a Friday around 3pm and about 20 available spots. When I went to sleep probably still 15 available.
Great spot between Tucson and Mount Lemmon. Far enough down to stay warm in the winter. First come first serve and it was pretty empty at 5pm.
This is a great place to stop if you are chill and looking for a no fuss place. Great group of people with positive energy and diversity of both people and rigs. Long term, tents, tiny homes, skoolies, and traditional travelers all in one place. Free coffee in the clubhouse in the morning.
