A Good Place to Rest

First of all- DON’T TRAVEL RT 3 FROM I40! Travel on 84, it looks longer, but it’s not really and the road is way better! We enjoyed staying here, even though we didn’t have an actual camp site. The dirt is red but that’s normal for this area. Good hiking (some slight rock climbing) The sites are mostly 2 per site, back to back, but it’s not real close together. And the tables seem to be on the wrong side in several places. When we called they said there were no sites available, but they’d make room for us. That was by the group shelter, and it wasn’t bad, but no where really private to set out chairs and no table, which we didn’t need anyway. It was a very quiet place and you can hear the river running. On through the camp, there are tent sites that are very nice. The ranger were very kind and helpful. Make time to visit in the city. One of the stores sells the best ever frito pie…with a cold Pepsi…wow! We were here in April and it was pretty warm, so I’d think it might be fairly hot in summer. I’d like to come back some

In spite of wind & bugs!

A very enjoyable place. A bit crowded and noisy on weekends. Plenty to see and do besides fishing. The sites were good on every loop, more trees on some

Big Bend A

We really enjoyed this campsite. Lots of trees and grass. Since sites are on different levels, most everyone has a good view of the lake. Sites are not too close and are at an angle, which makes it more private.

Good place

Decided to try this since it was close to home. Even though the park said so many sites were reserved, it was almost empty. I guess people reserve the week to make sure they get a place for weekends? Our site was good, not too much sun beating on us and the trees shaded the site well. Good for light biking on pavement or walking Sites seem to be well maintained. It was quiet and peaceful and that’s what we wanted. Our only complaint which isn’t the camps fault is there were so many bees getting in our faces and ears. But when the wind blew they kinda left too. The bathrooms weren’t the very best, but clean. Private showers with dressing area. Hot water… push button style spigot.

Our Go To Spot

It’s not too far for us to get to on a weekend and yet far enough to say we got “away” The park is well maintained and rangers are very friendly and helpful. There are several areas that cater to your activities. Playgrounds, fishing docks etc. bathrooms have always been clean. Only last year we had a complaint, but it was nature’s fault- a plague of flies! The only time in years we’ve seen that. A trip to nearby Clinton Ace hardware took care of that! Lots of restaurants there as well, if you want a place to eat for a change. We’ve been there in April, May, June and July
