Hartwell Lake is a man-made lake bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers. The dam and lake area boasts 8 campgrounds and 11 day-use facilities that are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Hartwell Project was originally authorized for hydro-power, flood control, and navigation. Later, recreation, water quality, water supply and fish and wildlife management were added. Surrounding vegetation allows for plenty of shade, and the 962 miles of shoreline provide numerous swimming beaches, picnic areas and boat ramps.
Fishing is one of the most popular activities at the lake. Sought-after species include largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, striped bass and hybrid bass.
The lake appeals to boaters of all kinds, whether their specialty is canoeing, sailing or motor boating. Coves and areas of quiet water provide water skiers with excellent surfaces.
Swimmers will find sand beaches and designated swim areas along the shoreline.
Winfield Campground is located on the Little River near Mistletoe State Park on J. Strom Thurmond Lake. The 70,000 acre lake and its 1,000+ miles of shoreline provide excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking.
This wooded, waterfront campground contains 80 sites with electrical hookups. Amenities include flush and vault toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station, playground and boat ramp.
Thurmond Lake provides some of the best fishing, hunting, and water sports in the southeastern US. Anglers fish for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish and striped bass. The large lake offers endless boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing and swimming opportunities.
Great COE Campground with the best camp host I have ever met. He was always happy and funny too. Lots of great sites on the lake. Most sites are large with trees.
A great COE campground. Staff is very polite and friendly. Easy access sites but some are close together with lots of trees on beautiful Carters Lake in the north Georgia mountains.
This is a great state park with good fishing on three lakes.
Make sure you go see Manchester Mill Ruins.
Another gem on Lake Lanier with great views and good fishing. COE Campground. Easy access. Great host, very helpful and very polite. Another great adventure.
Great campground with great hosts and great fishing. Beautiful lake with crystal clear water. Easy access. Very relaxing atmosphere.
This is without a doubt the nicest campground we've stayed at on Lake Lanier. Most spots are on the water. They also have nicely mowed grass and some trees. Campground is VERY clean. Nice level spots also. We did some driving around to pick out our favorite spots. We’ve stayed at spot #54. HUGE SPOT right on the lake with easy access. Shade is limited. We will be going back in September for 2 weeks on staying at #54. We will be going back again in October to stay for 2 more weeks and staying at spot #56. It is very private, has plenty of trees to provide shade and also has easy lake access.
Stayed here in March for a week. We’re back for a month. Spot B42 with full hook up. LOVE THIS PLACE. A fair amount small bass and trout are being caught.
This is without a doubt the nicest campground we've stayed at. Most spots are on the water. They also have nicely mowed grass and some trees. Campground is VERY clean. Nice level spots also. We did some driving around to pick out our favorite spots. We stayed at spot #71 which is without a doubt the nicest spot in the whole campground. We will be returning September 17th and will be staying for 14 days. Can't wait. In my opinion the 3 best spots are 70,71 and 72. Actually any spot in the loop we stayed at (spots 62 to 75) are awesome. We also liked 33 and 61.
