Have been rustic camping for years, newly into kayaking and backpacking. Always interested in new adventures with new people!

Decent if you are the only one there...

The sites are quite close, and it is right off the highway.  Not too far from the dam and there are trails everywhere.  Certain times of the year they will have events and it brings out the rowdy crowd.

Family-Friendly

I went to Pentoga many years as a kid, always a good time.  They have a decent playground and camp store, the beach is great for swimming and the lake for fishing.  They have a dock to jump off about 50' out, and another with a diving board about 200' out.  There are trails and a lot of history to discover, it is quite crowded though…

Southfork Rustic Cabin

Had the pleasure of visiting first weekend in February, on the coldest weekend of the year! Nice little cabin set in about 800’ from where you park. It has a table, wood stove, and 4 sets of bunks in a back room. Lots of trails within reach and a horse riding stable if that is your thing. Heard lots of wolves, saw lots of tracks but no animals. I’d like to go back in the spring and hike around some more! Pro tip for cold nights is to block the back room and sleep in the main area-

Fun Rustic Cabins!

We have been going yearly to the cabins in Cheboygan State Park for many years and have stayed at each cabin they offer.  All of them are great, vault toilet and hand pump for water, drive up (although the road in can be a little rough).  Some have better beach access then others, 2 of them have firepits on the beach to enjoy the amazing sunsets.  Excellent view of the bridge and many large boats going by, perfect photo opportunity!

Excellent Escape!

If you're looking for an off-the-grid escape this is it.  The hike-in/paddle in camping spots are equipped with a picnic table and a firepit, everything else is up to you.  I have been going here yearly for the last 10ys and absolutely love it!  The only downside is the fishing has gone downhill the last 3ys, the bass used to bite every cast…
