The sites are quite close, and it is right off the highway. Not too far from the dam and there are trails everywhere. Certain times of the year they will have events and it brings out the rowdy crowd.
I went to Pentoga many years as a kid, always a good time. They have a decent playground and camp store, the beach is great for swimming and the lake for fishing. They have a dock to jump off about 50' out, and another with a diving board about 200' out. There are trails and a lot of history to discover, it is quite crowded though…

It has a table, wood stove, and 4 sets of bunks in a back room. Lots of trails within reach and a horse riding stable if that is your thing. Heard lots of wolves, saw lots of tracks but no animals. We have been going yearly to the cabins in Cheboygan State Park for many years and have stayed at each cabin they offer. All of them are great, vault toilet and hand pump for water, drive up (although the road in can be a little rough). Some have better beach access then others, 2 of them have firepits on the beach to enjoy the amazing sunsets. Excellent view of the bridge and many large boats going by, perfect photo opportunity!
If you're looking for an off-the-grid escape this is it. The hike-in/paddle in camping spots are equipped with a picnic table and a firepit, everything else is up to you. I have been going here yearly for the last 10ys and absolutely love it! The only downside is the fishing has gone downhill the last 3ys, the bass used to bite every cast…
