Nature without a far drive

This is one of my favorite campgrounds to visit. Living in Eagle River, this campground allows me to get out of town without going far. Be careful if you aren't used to camping, there are a ton of bears. Don't keep your food out of a secured box or by your tent, or rent one of their yurts. Make sure you take bear spray and/or a gun with you. Also bring bug spray as the mosquitoes can be quite viscous. I bring a bug net for my head too, this way when they are extremely bad, I can still enjoy being outside

the hiking trails are absolutely beautiful!! Watch for Moose. Look up every so often because there are also bald eagles around.

if you want to venture out for a different hike with amazing views, check out Baldy. You can see Anchorage to the Valley.

Close but not too close

This campground is only a short drive from Anchorage, but far enough so you feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle of town. There are great trails for hiking. Biggest downside is that it is close to the highway. The turnagain arm is beautiful, and if you are lucky, you might see beluga whales. Portage glacier and Girdwood are just a little farther south and worth exploring as well.

The wildlife is amazing. You can see eagles, sheep, moose, and bears (if you are lucky). Don't camp or hike without either bear spray or a gun.

Fly fishing for dinner

This is a great place to escape for a night or a weekend. I made sure to have my fishing permit with me along with my fly rod. The mountains are beautiful. I made sure to bring extra bug spray because the ticks and mosquitoes can be quite a pain in the butt. The hiking isn't amazing! They have restrooms, which is a plus if you have never been camping without them. They also have picnic tables! I was surprised at how clean this campground was!!! Will certainly be back.

Beautiful falls, decent campground

Beautiful destination! Take a walk up the path next to the chasm. So relaxing listening to the water falls. Great place to watch the sunset! Make sure you bring a light jacket in the summer, the evenings can still get chilly from time to time. If you are camping here in the fall, check out Rulfs orchard for some apple picking. Fillion's diner is amazing and super reasonable pricing.

You can rent a cabin if you don't want to camp in a tent. Nice way to stay away from mosquitoes and black flies. Tons of activities to do here: hiking, biking, walking, disc golf, etc.

Gold Rush

Nice cabins to rent if you don't want to take a tent or RV! Watch out for wildlife. Check out a cool old mining town or just get out of your busy life and relax. Beautiful view, clean air, and quiet!

Camping on the Kenai without the drive

This is a beautiful place to camp without having to drive all the way to Kenai or Homer. Trees, water, wildlife… What else do you need! This is a great place to get out of town for a bit.
